THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome back Peter Uihlein from RangeGoats GC. Another good round, 6-under 66. Can you take us through your round today?
PETER UIHLEIN: Yeah, I got off to a hot start, birdied 1, 2, 3, 4, hit it close on 5, missed it, and made a pretty sloppy bogey on 6, but was off to pretty much a dream start.
But felt like if you were telling me before the round I'd be 3-under through 6, I probably would have taken it. Even with that bogey, I still felt pretty good.
Yeah, then after that played pretty solid, pretty steady, hit a lot of greens and gave myself looks and was able to make a long birdie putt on 17 to cap off a pretty good day.
Q. Three solid rounds this week so far. Is there any change in mentality heading into Saturday knowing that you've got a chance to win?
PETER UIHLEIN: Yeah, I mean, from what I've seen it's probably not going to be windy, so it'll play kind of like the first day. You're going to have to make some birdies.
I thought today would be really tough, and it was, but I shot 6-under and felt like I didn't really separate from anybody. Everyone felt like they were going low, a lot of scores under par. Felt like there were some 7s, 8s and whatnot. There was some dang good golf by a lot of guys out there tonight. Tomorrow is going to feel like you're probably going to have to make a bunch of birdies.
Q. If this had been the previous four years, you would have been in a playoff. Do you like the fact that you get 18 holes tomorrow to figure this one out?
PETER UIHLEIN: Yeah, thanks for bringing that up. Yeah, I do. I felt like 72 holes fits me a little bit better. If you would have told me at the beginning of the week, hey, you'd be tied for the lead after 54 and you have a chance to win on Sunday, that's where you'd want to be. So I'd take it. Looking forward to the challenge tomorrow.
Q. Do you feel like during the week you've become more comfortable out there, not only playing at night, but you just looked like you were having a nice walk out there today?
PETER UIHLEIN: Yeah, today I was. Me and Talor go way back. We're college teammates, so it was a very comfortable group. And Thomas is a great player; I enjoy playing with him, as well. Today's group was fantastic.
But it felt like today I was better than I was yesterday. Yesterday I didn't feel as sharp. But today I felt much more comfortable. You're going to feel that way when you get off to that kind of start.
But the more you get in these situations, the more comfortable you'll keep feeling. The goal is to just keep putting yourself in these situations.
Q. Are you expecting a shootout tomorrow? Do you feel like especially the way the scores went today?
PETER UIHLEIN: Yeah, I am. It's just all about the weather, really, or the wind. It's funny because today I thought was windier, but I guess the direction was a little bit different, so some of the holes maybe played a little different.
But it didn't feel like it was easier than yesterday, but everyone went low. I'm expecting it to be a shootout, but we could come out here tomorrow and it's blowing 15, 20 again, so you never know.
Q. I've been wanting to ask you about this all week. Can you give us some insight on the flashlight?
PETER UIHLEIN: Yeah. There's a lot of shadows and there's a lot of different shadows. A lot of it kind of covers your line and you can't really properly see the grain and the break and the slope. The flashlight is just used to just illuminate all or most of the other shadows and then just have one direct light source that allows me to read the greens a little bit easier.
Q. Have you used it on the fairways at all?
PETER UIHLEIN: Yeah, we'll use it in the fairway, out of the rough, just to see the lie, if it's into the grain or how it's sitting. Sometimes it's dark and sometimes you're sitting there looking at the ball in the rough, and it's like, man, it looks like it's pretty buried, and then put a flashlight on it, and it's like, no, it's sitting up pretty nice. So we're using it quite frequently, to be honest with you.
Yeah, I used it last year, and convinced some of the guys to try it this year. I don't know if they're doing it. But it might not have worked for them, either. So who knows.
