Quick Quotes

Q. To stand on top of a podium and hear your National Anthem --

ABRAHAM ANCER: Yeah, it's a different feeling and it's an awesome, awesome feeling. I got to experience that in Chile in November, and when they put the medal on top of you and you're hearing your anthem, it's really cool.

Q. Goosebumps?

ABRAHAM ANCER: Goosebumps. You feel like how proud -- as Mexicans we're extremely passionate, and I felt the support of the whole country, obviously especially in the golf world, but even I got messages from people that have no idea about golf, and they were just so excited that I contributed with the medal, and it was the last medal earned in the Pan-American Games. It was an unbelievable feeling. I can't imagine how incredible that would feel in the Olympics.

Yeah, it's something that I'm looking forward to quite a bit. I don't want to get too ahead of myself because we have to do some work this week. But yeah, it's just something that it's extremely special.

Q. Where would an Olympic medal fall in the pantheon of your accomplishments or any golfer's accomplishments?

ABRAHAM ANCER: I think of any golfer's accomplishments, it's definitely up there. It's tough to compare because we've only had it for eight years or maybe a little bit more than that, if I'm not mistaken. Obviously you have the history of the majors and everybody's dream is to win a major, but I think it's up there. I definitely think it's up there.

It's in a different category, I feel like, but it's something that would mean so much in the golf world but also as a country for people that don't even know anything about golf. I think it's definitely up there with majors.

Q. What was the coolest thing about being in the Olympics three years ago?

ABRAHAM ANCER: It was a little bit unfortunate to have it while still with the COVID regulations because we couldn't really -- even though we stayed at the village, which is an absolute scene, the food course is just massive and you're walking around just the best athletes in the world, which is really incredible. I wanted to go experience some other sports, but we couldn't. It was all closed. We couldn't really go and support any other teams in any other disciplines, which was unfortunate.

But just experiencing the whole village, it was incredible. I can't imagine how it would be without any regulations, which I'm sure Paris is going to be open and normal. But I'm looking forward to that.

Q. What would be the one other sport you'd want to watch?

ABRAHAM ANCER: There's a ton, but I've never watched swimming, so I've only watched it, obviously, on TV. I think that's something that would be pretty exciting to see it live.

Q. I think the opening ceremonies are this week --

ABRAHAM ANCER: Yeah, we won't be able to go, unfortunately. Four years ago it was the same thing. We couldn't attend.
