Q. Jon, not necessarily your best stuff, maybe a couple unlucky breaks here and there, but how much did you rely on your win last year to get you through today?
JON RAHM: A little bit. I had a sense of confidence that I know I can get it done, but it's a completely different wind. The fairways somehow feel firmer than last year. It's a bit of a guess knowing how big the bounce is going to be. This 18th hole is a perfect case. I thought it was great and it never stopped.
I think you need to execute well, and eventually you get a little bit lucky with the bounces.
Q. Not that you need any more motivation to win because I know you want to win more than anybody, but with Joaco playing so bad today, where does that put your mindset on the weekend to try to win this tournament and actually take this individual title?
JON RAHM: Well, we have two weeks, and I don't think I need to worry too much about what Joaco is doing. I need to win regardless. I need a bit of that fortune of him not having his best. But he has had bad first rounds to start and has bounced back with two really good ones. I still would expect him to win that at least in the points. Let's just hope I can be the one with the most amount of points this week.
Q. With the balls not really stopping, are you going to change any game plan tomorrow like where you'll lay back, or will you lay back more or chase more? Like on 9, that 4-iron got all the way down. Will you hit driver there tomorrow or change your game plan tomorrow?
JON RAHM: I thought about it on 9; I just don't think I could cover that bunker, so I wasn't fully comfortable. I think a few of those iron shots that I hit, like that one on 16, that was just unfortunate to land it on the steepest part of the downslope, so maybe play on that and maybe just a little harder off the tee and try and land it on the flat, but again, it's a bit of the luck for the game.
