THE MODERATOR: Please welcome to LIV Golf media center Fireballs GC's Abraham Ancer. You shot a 69 today, leaves you tied for fourth right now. Can you talk about your round?
ABRAHAM ANCER: Yeah, very solid round, very happy the way I hit it off the tee. I think I only missed two fairways that led to two bogeys. The rough is no joke out there. But I love golf courses like that that you have to be in the fairway.
Definitely hurts to finish the way I finished with a double bogey, obviously. Just felt like I just lost a little bit of concentration on that par-3. I missed a short birdie putt on the par-5, the 2nd, and then I hit a bad shot on 3 and just made a little bit of a mess of it. That's just what happens out here if you're not where you're supposed to be.
But other than that, I felt great. I hit the ball really good, rolled it nicely. I never really got into too much trouble, which is the key for this golf course.
Q. You had a runner-up in Adelaide and you're 19th in points coming in. How do you feel about the season to date for you?
ABRAHAM ANCER: Yeah, obviously started really nice in Australia. That one got away from me. Joaco played really well on that Sunday and coming down the stretch things didn't go my way there.
Then it's been a little bit of a roller coaster. I've felt like I haven't finished the tournaments the way I wanted, some tournaments that I feel like I played good enough to finish in the top 5, top 10 for sure, and then just have a little bit of like a slip here and there and you end up 14th or 19th and you're like, man, what happened.
It's been a couple of really bad tournaments, but other than that, I feel like my game has been in a good position, which I feel like is trending the right way. I've put a lot of work in these last two years, and I feel like my swing and things are starting to kind of fall into place a little bit.
But it's a process. Sometimes we feel like that and tomorrow I can tell you, man, I think I'm lost or I think I've figured it out. It's all you can put it into perspective for sure.
Q. You came into this week with an outside chance of still getting the Open exemption. You still have a mathematical possibility. Has that been on your mind this week?
ABRAHAM ANCER: Ever since they announced the exemptions, it's been in my mind. Obviously you're always trying to perform the best and be obviously at the highest you can on the leaderboard, on the points list. But yeah, I would definitely love to do really well the next two rounds and hopefully have a chance for that spot. I know it will be tough, but mathematically it's a possibility. I'm going to give it my all and see where it takes me.
Q. Talking about the Fireballs, you guys obviously went through that really hot stretch, won three straight. What's it been like since then, and the talk about trying to get back into that incredible form that you guys showed?
ABRAHAM ANCER: Yeah, absolutely. Obviously those three tournaments that we played, they were incredible, and I think we're not firing on all cylinders, but when there's four scores counting, it's tough. You cannot have somebody that's not playing good. All of them have to be somewhere in the mix, and we haven't done that in the last events. We've got to all figure it out individually and then collectively it's going to happen that we're going to come back and hopefully have a chance to win some events.
We definitely talked about it. We just need to obviously play some good golf. We're all working really hard. We're practicing as much as we can on the things that we need to figure out, and yeah, I think we're on the right track for sure.
