Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Jenny Shin after her first round here at the LPGA Drive On Championship. Take us through your round today. A lot of birdies out there. How were you finding those opportunities?

JENNY SHIN: The first seven holes it was pretty windy, so when I got my birdie opportunity on No. 1 I got that, and then was pretty tough getting close to the hole and I didn't play yesterday so I wasn't quite sure how firm it was.

I was quite surprised that Monday was a bit firmer. Towards the end of the back nine I was attacking the pins a little bit more when I had a shorter club in.

Yeah, had a lot of 12 footers and I managed to make quite a lot of them.

Q. Yeah. I was going to say, what was it about your game today that was working for you best? Was it the putting?

JENNY SHIN: Probably inside 130 yards, you know, pitch into the green, I managed to keep it inside 15 feet, and I read the greens pretty well in that range.

So, yeah, the putts fell in.

Q. Have you ever played this course before?

JENNY SHIN: No. Been out here a long time, but I actually did not play this golf course.

Q. What did you think about it? How important is course management going to be this week? I think it's a little tricky.

JENNY SHIN: Well, I was pleasantly surprised because when I played the practice round it was raining and the golf course was playing a lot longer. Today without the rain had a lot of short clubs in.

If you can keep the balls in the fairway, there is a lot of birdie chances out there.

Q. How happy are you just to have such a fantastic round right off the bat this season, and what did your off-season look like preparing for this moment?

JENNY SHIN: My off-season, you know, coming into this year wasn't different from the year previous off-season. It's just more I had a whole year last year of a lot of experiments, and it's more about honing in I guess.

The process didn't change. The mentality didn't change. I feel like I'm a little bit more comfortable, and it's really nice, like you said, having the first few events of the season I was in contention quite a bit, so that meant a lot.

And I feel like I'm a little bit more confident to do it again.

Q. Yeah, I know you were over in Singapore and Thailand. How does it feel to do so well over there and get back into the swing of things here in the States?

JENNY SHIN: I played with the best, top players in Singapore and Thailand because I was in contention and, it was very refreshing to watch them play golf.

You know, like I said, I've been out here for 13 years and the game of golf has changed so much. The girls hit it so long and so straight and the putts are going in. You know, the up and downs are a little bit different.

So it was very refreshing and very nice to know that I was able to keep myself up there and know that I can do it as well.

So it's a great momentum builder.

Q. How are you looking to carry that momentum into the rest of this week with one round down?

JENNY SHIN: I mean, we'll see. Process is going to be the same. Got to keep knocking the door and see if it'll open up one day.
