Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Akie Iwai after her first round at the ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer. You had a great round today oops at the top of the leaderboard. What won't well? What felt good for you?

AKIE IWAI: So I feel good. Because, yeah, today together driver shot, iron shot, approach, putting, really good. I feel good, yeah.

Q. What do you like about this course? Is there certain things about it that you like?

AKIE IWAI: No narrow. No wide. I think no wide. That's why.

So I must be course management, yeah. And then small green, yeah. But no problem, so -- so if running center, every time birdie chance, yeah.

Q. And did you feel like the wind affected you at all today?

AKIE IWAI: Not much.

Q. You played really well on the front nine.

AKIE IWAI: Yeah.

Q. Birdied the second hole, which a lot of people think is the toughest hole on the course. How did you birdie that hole and did it give you momentum for the rest of the round?

AKIE IWAI: No. 3?

Q. 2.

AKIE IWAI: No. 2. Just a moment.

Q. It's the long par-4 into the water basically.

AKIE IWAI: (Through translation.) So No. 2 is definitely a tough hole, but I gave myself a birdie chance. It wasn't an easy putt.

But since made that putt it did set the tone for the rest of my round.

Q. How far was the putt?

AKIE IWAI: Six yards.

Q. Six yards?

AKIE IWAI: Yeah.

Q. And two second place finishes this year. Do you feel like you're on the verge of getting that win with the way you've been playing so far this year? Like I said the two second place finishes.

AKIE IWAI: I don't think -- (Through translation.) I'm not really feeling like I'm on the verge of winning.

So there is still two more days of golf for this tournament and you never know what happens to golf. Yeah, just got to -- never really know. That's why you can't say.

Q. Last one from me: Ai Miyazato won this tournament about 15 years ago. Just wondering if you grew up watching her play or following her? What would it mean to win a tournament she won for me what seems like a short time ago; for you probably a long time ago?

AKIE IWAI: (Through translation.) I haven't really thought about it, but if I won at the same tournament as Ai Miyazato I would be honored about it.

Q. Did you grow up watching Ai?

AKIE IWAI: No.

Q. 54-hole tournament; how important is it to get off to a fast start like that and kind of set the pace and maybe send a message to the rest of the field, just because it's 54 holes and not 72?

AKIE IWAI: Normally four days, so I feel fast, shorter tournament, yeah. That's why.

We must make a lot birdie, yeah.

Q. One more. Did the course conditions change at all during the round because of the wind picking up?

AKIE IWAI: (Through translation.) It felt like the wind didn't really affect the course today.
