Quick Quotes

Q. All right, her with Dewi Weber after her first round at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. Solid round today. I believe just one shot out of the lead right now. Can you talk about what went well for you?

DEWI WEBER: I didn't really hit any bad shots. I hit like maybe two slightly uncommitted shots; 95% of them were just solid hits.

Good game plan, somewhat conservative, but they ended up in good spots. I never was that far from the hole, so things were going well.

Q. Can you talk about the eagle on 4?

DEWI WEBER: Oh, I don't even remember how far it was. I think we had 110 or so and had a little bit wind helping. DT was like, hey, with the lie above the feet, I would like to you start this here.

I remember him saying like right before I pulled the trigger, it doesn't really matter where the hole is. We're just going on this line, which to be fair was like quite a ways bit from the hole.

So I hit it on that line and the ball just did exactly what it needed to do and just went to the left, even more to the left because of the wind and the lie once again. I was like, that looks pretty good, and then it just disappeared. I was like, okay.

Q. So you noticed it went in?

DEWI WEBER: Yeah, I could see it spin to the left and go in. It was fun.

Q. Is that a common trend with a lot of holes out here with the greens, kind of picking a middle location and going from there?

DEWI WEBER: I think it's kind of the pins. You have some pins here you can definitely go at, especially with us being in the morning. There wasn't that much wind when we started; then it started picking up somewhere on the back nine, I think maybe 1 or 2 or whatever.

So there is definitely holes where you can dead that aim and hit it as close as you can, especially also because you're having wedges in. Like the amount of time I hit between pitching wedge and lob wedge today was quite often.

But yeah, there is definitely some holes where when the wind comes into play, you're playing way from the hole, and then just knowing a 15-footer is a pretty good shot and stay kind of patient with those ones.

Maybe, I don't know, don't be super hard on yourself. It is super tempting to be like, I have sand wedge in my hand; let's just hit it dead at the pin, and that just doesn't work on some of the holes here.

Q. Curious, what club did you hit on the eagle?

DEWI WEBER: Sand wedge.

Q. Sand wedge. You birdied the last hole after the two bogeys. How much does that give you a lift or momentum going into tomorrow?

DEWI WEBER: Honestly, yeah, it's nice but it's only nice because I hit my last putt really well and I did exactly what I needed to. Not in terms of like I hit it in the hole, but I have these tiny little process goals, and I hit every one of those goals and I make a good stroke and it happened to meet the hole.

It's more those kind of things that I get energy out of or get momentum out of than, cool, I made a birdie.

Q. How would you characterize your year so far? Happy with it? How have you been playing so far this year?

DEWI WEBER: It's been all right. I think it would be silly of me to say that I'm having an average or below-average year this year in the sense that I think I'm doing better than I probably have in the past if you look at any stats.

At the same time I feel like I've been playing better golf than my scores have told you guys, so like I know that I can do better and I know that I can get better results, and it's just me being a bit more patient with certain situations that will help me get those better results.

Q. And it's always a crowded leaderboard here after the first round. What does it mean to you to be at the top? You have to start fast to kind of win this tournament a lot of times. What does your start mean to you and your position?

DEWI WEBER: Yeah, I think what we did today was great. It's just a good start. I think if you start this tournament being around par or over par you're always a little bit behind.

This is nice obviously, but there is two more days and you know also with a three-day tournament you have to keep your foot on the gas.

That's what we're going to try to do.
