Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Jennifer after the second round at The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican. So, just start off with No. 14, the eagle on the AON Risk-Reward hole. You knew what you needed to do and you did that. Just talk about that.

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, coming into the week I had my eyes set on two eagles. That's probably what I would need to win. Maybe. We'll see. But I think, yeah, was definitely like coming into it really only thinking about that hole.

But I think it's also nice to be playing well this week. I've not necessarily been practicing how I would like to, but I think just to see that my game is still up there and I'm still ready to go, I think that's super great, too.

Q. Right now after that 4-under 66, sitting in T2. Talk about the front nine. A lot of birdies but also a few bogeys sprinkled in. How are you trying to avoid those bogeys on a very difficult golf course out here?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I don't think it's necessarily avoiding them. I think they're going to happen. Like if you try to avoid them they're going to happen more.

I think this golf course definitely keeps you on your toes. It's really difficult. Any hole you can bogey you can birdie really, so it's just like focusing one shot at a time and just taking it like that.

Q. Heard you saying something interesting yesterday about admiring Auston Kim's tempo. Can you expound upon that and explain what you mean there?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, I think in general when I don't hit the ball well I'm getting a little fast. Her tempo is so good, so just like slowing down my backswing a little bit like really gets me into it and gets me set into it, set into the shot, and then I can really make the contact that I want.

So just watching her, I was a little fast starting the round yesterday and even today, and just like it's nice to be able to have someone like oh, this is what I'm trying to do. I can just look at it and be like, okay, just relax and hit the ball.

Q. Love that. How have you been able to capitalize on these greens? We keep hearing they're slick out there.

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, they're fast. I think just like relax and just hit it. I mean, obviously they're fast. You kind of have to play a little bit more break or read the grain a lot. Me and my caddie do a really good job reading bermuda together, so usually where I would read the greens by myself it's nice to have him to lean on and know that I have the breaks right if I just -- like I don't need to smash it into the hole. I can just play the break, and if it goes in, it goes in.

Q. Just kind of eyeballing the computer here, I think I counted seven scores of 66 or better already today. Are the conditions that much different out there?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I don't think so. I think it's just like the -- when the wind is down it's definitely a lot easier. I think possibly the pin placements are maybe a little easier today.

But no, I would say it's very similar to yesterday.
