Q. All right, here with Brooke Matthews after the third round at The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican. 6-under 64. I would say it's anything from a standard 6-under 64. Only three pars on the card. Talk about a little bit your round today.
BROOKE MATTHEWS: It was total roller coaster, man. I was either hitting the best shot ever or the worst shot ever to be honest with you. Yeah, it was good. I think I made 11 birdies. I had I think I stretch of 12 holes without a par.
So it was stressful but at the same time a lot of good stuff. Couple missed drives. Didn't love how I drove it today. Got away with it for a while and kind of bit me at the end.
Overall I would have signed at the beginning of the day, so it's just good to get a little hot and have some good feels out there.
Q. Walk us through a little bit about the emotions of the 12-hole stretch. Like you said, a lot birdies, a few bogeys, and even a double sprinkled in. What was that roller coaster like?
BROOKE MATTHEWS: Yeah, it's wild. It's something probably only happens about once a year and I saved it the last event. Yeah, it was good to know that when I did make mistakes I felt like I was good enough to bounce back, and I did. I made a -- I had a three-putt from honestly pretty close on 11 and I was able to make four, five birdies in a row or something. Yeah, it's good to know. You just got to keep going. This is a hard golf course. There are bogeys out there. Just keep your foot on the gas and keep going.
Q. And then heading into the week No. 62 in the CME points list, hovering around the bubble, put a good round together today. How big is that heading into tomorrow?
BROOKE MATTHEWS: Yeah, it's big. I made the decision at the beginning of the week that I was going to be okay with both outcomes. I had really good year. Put myself in some good positions, so whatever what happens tomorrow happens. No matter what it's going to be a building block to next year.
I know that I can do even better next year. If that happens, great. If not, I'll be okay with it.
Q. Are the roller coaster that was going on, were you thinking at all -- because you were a little bit on 60 or 59 watch for a little bit. Again...
BROOKE MATTHEWS: It crosses your mind, but honestly, no. I know these last three holes are pretty tough. Yeah, it kind of stung to finish like that, but at the same time I had a really good day and I'm not going to only remember the last three holes after having a good day.
Q. Is there a preferred method to get to 64, either what you just did or six birdies without a bogey?
BROOKE MATTHEWS: You know, as fun as it was to make a bunch of birdies I think it would be a little less stressful to make six birdies and no bogeys. You don't get to pick really sometimes. You just got to do the best you can on every hole and sometimes that's how it works out.
Q. 64 is rewarding regardless, right?
BROOKE MATTHEWS: Absolutely.
Q. Going back to the roller coaster of emotions, how did you stay present during your round and stay focused when it was going really well and also when you were bouncing back?
BROOKE MATTHEWS: Yeah, I just had it in my mind, like this is a hard golf course, but at the same time the greens are rolling really good. You can make putts if you get yourself in the right position.
So I felt good with how I was hitting my irons. Honestly, I was like if I can find this ball I have a good chance to hit an iron shot. I'm rolling it really well, too, so that helps. Wedging good and putting it good is great formula for making a lot of birdies.
Q. Fun question to take your minds off it. The holiday season is coming up. What's the best golf-related gift that I have received?
BROOKE MATTHEWS: Oh, gosh. You know, I'm not sure there is one. The best golf-related gift I've ever received? Time when I was 12 I think I got this putting mat for my room and I was really excited about it.
But honestly for the golfers in your life, don't guess, just get them what they want. You get a lot of really bad golf gifts out there as we all probably know.
