Kapolei, Hawaii, USA

Kapolei Golf Club

Nelly Korda

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, Nelly. Getting to 7-under, one of the lowest rounds in the afternoon -- the lowest round in the afternoon so far.

How do you think you fared with these windy conditions?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, I did pretty well. I actually hit all my greens on the front nine and just missed three on the back. Chipped in on the last hole, which was nice.

But that's what you need to do in windy conditions, you need to hit as many fairways and greens as possible and try to give yourself some opportunities, which I did today.

Q. I was going to say, was it part of the strategy when you came to Kapolei this year?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, I know it's going to take a couple under every single day to kind of be in contention. Kind of going to be a birdiefest I think throughout the week.

Yeah, did a good job today.

Q. We've heard it is a gettable course. Those birdies are out there. Do you think more birdies are out there in the morning when the gusts aren't as large?

NELLY KORDA: Probably, yeah. It affects your putts, too, because, I mean, with the bermuda greens -- with the wind out here the greens can't be fast, so when it's gusty out it affects the putts, too.

So it's definitely I think an advantage playing in the morning.

Q. Take us through the chip on the last hole. How much does that help as kind of a calming confident boost as you go into tomorrow?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, it's nice. I was actually trying to make it. It was reading it I was like, Okay, this would be nice on the last hole.

But, yeah, it was nice.

Q. We've seen some impressive streaks from you as of late, including all the way back at Gainbridge with your win. How are you feeling doing well in a place like Hawaii?

NELLY KORDA: It's nice. Yeah, I mean, the views are amazing, the weather is just what I like. Hopefully -- there is just a lot of golf out there, but hopefully I can be in contention on Sunday.

Q. What is there to work on or what is the mindset as you get ready for round two?

NELLY KORDA: Just be aggressive and give yourself as many birdie opportunities as possible. I mean, you're going to have short clubs in, so you got to give yourself some good looks.

Q. Talk about that groove you're in in the middle of the round, six birdies in seven holes.

NELLY KORDA: I mean, I think when you're feeling it, you're feeling it. You're sticking them close and making the putts. When you're kind of on that run it kind of just feels like night and day.

Q. (Indiscernible) two years ago, Ko Olina. Something about Hawaii that suits your game?

NELLY KORDA: I like the bermudagrass. I grew up on this and the weather, I love playing in hot and humid weather. Feel comfortable out here.
