Frida Kinhult

Quick Quotes

Q. Okay, here with Frida Kinhult. That's a heck of a round, 6-under today. Looked like you had everything firing on all cylinders. Tell me about your round.

FRIDA KINHULT: Yeah, it was very solid. Nothing crazy really happened. Yeah, just throughout the day tried to hit some fairways, and then I think I hit most greens, which is helpful in this wind.

So, yeah, just tried to stay patient out there shot by shot for real in this wind. A lot of the math in my head, so probably going to fall asleep pretty good tonight.

Yeah, super happy with the start and pumped for the rest of the week.

Q. What were you and Jackie doing to strategize on the iron shots?

FRIDA KINHULT: I think we talked through them very clearly on like playing number, where to carry, how to play it there, what type of shot, high, low, curve, everything.

So I think I struggled yesterday, so maybe that sharpened my focus a little bit and helped me to get dialed in today. So, yeah, we just talked through every shot very clearly.

Q. These conditions, you can't go at pins very much. How to you break up the greens into quadrants, and did that help you at all.

FRIDA KINHULT: I was probably pretty aggressive. I was like, if I miss the wind is just going to take it anyway, so if I can try to get it close, just do it.

So, yeah, no, probably play pretty aggressive. I missed couple but saved some up and downs, so, no, it was good.

Q. I think you were bogey-free all day until the very last one. Was that a tough lie with the chip shot in?

FRIDA KINHULT: Well, I hit a chip shot like a half a foot, so I was like -- in the stats I was like nine meters, nine meters. (Laughter.)

But these things happen. It was a little fluffy lie and I just didn't hit the ball. Yeah, no, other than that it was pretty solid, yeah.

Q. Correct me if I'm wrong, you grew up on an island back home. I imagine the weather and everything, a much different type of island, but just being on an island golfing, what does that mean to you?

FRIDA KINHULT: I guess the windy conditions are similar to what I grew up, and especially I spent winters in Spain growing up, and winter in Spain gets pretty windy, too.

Yeah, no, just trying to calculate and then hit and hope, because you never know. The gusts have been pretty strong today. Yeah, just hit and hope and try to do the math correct.

Q. Curious, have you golfed in Hawai'i before?

FRIDA KINHULT: I played this one last year. Yeah, second time here.

Q. Wrap it up, good solid way to start the week. This is one of your better rounds of the season. What does this tell you about the state of your game?

FRIDA KINHULT: I mean, you never know what's in front of you, but obviously a boost to get a low score, like any day that would be nice.

But I had some good work in the off-season. Maybe less work than normal, but better, more efficient.

So, yeah, hopefully that's a good way of practicing and I can use that moving forward: less but better time.

Yeah, no, I'm happy with it. It's exciting.
