Quick Quotes

LIZETTE SALAS:

Q. All right, here with Lizette Salas. Got that win on Saturday in Midland.

LIZETTE SALAS: Yeah.

Q. What's the last couple days been like for you finally earning that first win since 2014?

LIZETTE SALAS: Well, I'll say this: It didn't hit my until I got on the flight from Newark to Geneva.

Just kind of all the -- kind of replaying everything that's happened since 2014, all the ups and downs, the almost -- throwing up the towel, almost winning a few majors.

Everything kind of blew up, and it was after I FaceTimed any dad and my coach. Just super grateful. Relieved. There is always that question if you're going to be that one-hit wonder kind of player.

Just to get it with just a dominant player and a great friend like Jennifer was just icing on the cake. Happy 33rd birthday to me.

Q. Yeah, birthday on Sunday; win on Saturday. I'm sure the celebrations were pretty hot and heavy before the flight. I mean, just you mentioned it, but just encapsulate what you've been going through the last eight years. You're a gritty player; been close a bunch of times. How hard was it to stay positive in those moments?

LIZETTE SALAS: You mean during the hard times?

Q. Yeah. Or those close calls.

LIZETTE SALAS: This is why there is a village to back you up and to remind you of how good of a player you are and how much fight you have.

To be honest, at the beginning of that year I questioned myself. Like I don't know how much fight I have left. I love being out here. Just golf is such a tough sport, and it just -- if you're not prepared, it could just eat you alive mentally.

I was really scared about that. But getting this W just really flipped the switch on me. You know, just kind of lit that fire again. I'm excited. I'm excited to be on the golf course. Excited for these next couple majors coming up.

Yeah, golf is hard. Missing a few cuts already this year, it was not fun as I wanted it to be.

To just finally get it done in that way, winning my five. I guess we were both nervous going into Saturday, and that's why you play -- it's such a fun event to play for your partner and with a partner and just to like relive that happiness and joy from Solheim back in Toledo, it was pretty incredible.

Q. We were all really, really excited for you guys. Now you're here at Evian, fourth major of the season. Your shoulders are a little bit taller, standing a little bit taller.

LIZETTE SALAS: Yeah, I need it. I'm only 5'3".

Q. But coming here to a place you played pretty well at before, how much confidence are you carrying with you from Saturday?

LIZETTE SALAS: Yeah, just trying to ride the momentum from last week into this week. But at the same time, I don't have a partner to rely on.

But to know that I could hit good shots, can make clutch putts. Yeah, I played well here before, but every year is different. We're just going to try to, again, play boring golf. Been here several times, and doesn't seem like the course changes very much.

Just depends on the weather. But, yeah, this course requires a lot of patience. Requires a lot of kind of fairways and greens type of style. That's right up my alley, so, yeah, just trying to take it one day at a time and not let this kick my butt, because it's hurting right now.
