Quick Quotes

Q: How was your second round today?

YU JIN: I’m really happy to have finished with a good score in 8-under. With an eagle too, I think I hit my best score in a round this year. It was a really good day.

Q: Any particular areas of the game that went well today?

YU JIN: I got a lot of birdies early and that was thanks to the good shots leading up to the green. I’d say my shots were the best parts of my game today.

Q: How were the early consecutive birdies helped you with your confidence for the rest of the round?

YU JIN: Those birdies definitely helped with my confidence. I only had one birdie yesterday, so I was thinking it was pretty tough out there. Considering the type of grass, it gets long in the afternoon, so it helped playing in the morning today. The shots went according to how I was reading the lies.

Q: Outside of a team event at Dow, I think this was your personal best score in LPGA. How do you feel?

YU JIN: I think I’m getting more adjusted to LPGA, so I’m pleased with that. I hope to get more adjusted from talking with players who’ve been here longer than I have.

Q: The course is pretty hilly and you don’t get a lot of flat lies in this course. How is it to you?

YU JIN: I think the course is pretty familiar to courses I’ve played in Korea. It’s a bit tougher here than in Korea, but there are many similarities so I think Korean players may have an advantage in attacking the pins. Even if you hit it well, the ball tends to bounce out quite a bit so it’s important to keep your mental game in and focus when that happens.

Q: Talk about 7th hole eagle

YU JIN: It was 226 meters to the pin and 200 meters to the edge. I thought hitting a fade with a 3-wood will get out a bit but fortunately it had a draw lie so hitting a fade didn’t steer off too much. It landed right at the right spot and rolled nicely and had less than 1 meter. It was good to get that eagle

Q: Anything to work on ahead of the weekend?

YU JIN: When I played Dow two weeks ago, I learned a lot from playing with Mao and I wanted to apply that to my game. I think it was well applied today. So I want to what I learned and the emotions to tomorrow as well and continue playing well.

Q: What exactly did you learn?

YU JIN: Mao is so calm. When you play golf, you encounter critical situations like situations you can’t miss or opportunities you have to grasp it. I don’t think she misses those. I want to be able to grasp those opportunities like she does and I think I was able to do that today and hope to continue tomorrow.
