Q. All right, here with Manon after her first round at The Chevron Championship. First major of the year. Just how would you describe your start to this tournament this week?
MANON DeROEY: Yeah, I mean, I'm very happy with my round today. I just wanted to go out there and hit as many fairways as possible because I feel like that's the key on this course, and I think I did pretty good on that.
It gives you a better chance going for pins, getting closer to the pins. Yeah, very happy.
Q. You had a really nice start. Three birdies in a row toward the beginning. What were your thoughts on that train?
MANON DeROEY: Yeah, I mean, I had kind of like the correct numbers, right numbers for the clubs I wanted to hit, so that was nice. Especially on the par-3 over the water. I had the perfect club into that pin so I just went for it and used the backstop in the back and almost went in, so that was quite exciting.
Q. You mentioned coming here and wanting to prove yourself as well. How would you describe coming over from Europe and just the adjustment to prepare for this major championship?
MANON DeROEY: Yeah, I feel like I don't do much different to prepare, but I feel like sometimes out here I need to do more because everyone is so good here. I feel like in the end I just need to do my own thing, focus on my own routines and process and trust in what I'm doing.
Yeah, I think today I proved that a little bit as well.
Q. Major championships are always maybe not a slog, but a mental test. To get off to such a hot start, how much energy did that give you throughout the rest of the round?
MANON DeROEY: Yeah, I feel like getting out strong in the beginning is definitely an advantage, especially on the first round.
So I mean, this round gave me lot of confidence for the rest of the week. I'm just going to build on what I did and hopefully I can roll in some more putts over the next few days.
Q. Was putting the key today?
MANON DeROEY: Yeah, I hit pretty good shots. My tee shots were very important, so I focused on that mainly, and whenever I had a chance -- I mean, I always had a good line being like I always picked the right line, but I did good putts overall.
Not so many -- there were not so many that went in but it's just the start so I feel like they're going to drop over the next few days.
Q. When you tee off early like this, was there a certain number that you were looking to shoot today to get into contention early?
MANON DeROEY: No, not really. I mean, this is quite a long course as well, so I think as I mentioned, like I focus really on my tee shots, being in the fairway, being in the right spot, a good angle to the pin.
So I was really focusing on the shot at hand and I tried to stay in the present and not looking ahead of myself.
Q. I know it rained quite a bit yesterday; some bad weather. There are forecasts for some bad weather. Talk about the relief to know that you got your round in and didn't have to worry about weather.
MANON DeROEY: Yeah, so it rained a lot yesterday so I think I expected the course to be wet, but I think that's an advantage for me. Like I carry the ball further, so I feel like that was an advantage to have just carry distance.
But I'm happy to be done with my round and whatever brings this afternoon, I'm just going to chill and respect the round I played.
Q. How far do you carry the ball?
MANON DeROEY: With my driver or...
Q. Yeah.
MANON DeROEY: I carry the driver 239 meters, which is like -- I don't know many yard that is.
Q. Long.
MANON DeROEY: Yeah.
Q. What was your day like yesterday? How was your practice interrupted?
MANON DeROEY: Yeah, so I went to go out early to play nine holes but then we got called in. I am just at a house four minutes from here, so I went back home and chilled a bit and waited for the delay.
The thunderstorm and lightning actually struck our house so the power re went off for a bit.
Yeah, I just relaxed and went back out as soon as we could. Finished my nine holes, practiced a bit and then chill.
