Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Lilia Vu after her first round at The Chevron Championship, a bit of an up-and-down day for you. What were some good parts of your round and some of the challenges?

LILIA VU: Definitely made some bogeys out here, but birdies are possible. I think it's kind of hard to keep myself at the standard of not making any bogeys. It's a major week; obviously it's a difficult course, a new course for everybody, so just staying patient and giving myself opportunities.

Q. What are you seeing out there on the new course? What did you see in the practice rounds and today in competition?

LILIA VU: I think it's really demanding off the tee. You want to place yourself in the right area and then try to hit a good shot from the fairway and give yourself an opportunity for birdie.

Q. Are you liking it so far? I know you said you were having fun out there today. What was most fun about the course?

LILIA VU: I think that you really have to focus on each shot. You can't really get ahead of yourself because it's quite a demanding golf course. So I think that helps with how I like to play just target golf.

Q. Take us through your eagle there, one of the highlights of the round maybe?

LILIA VU: Yeah, I hit a pretty good drive. I had maybe 220 in, 190 to the front, just hit my 4-iron. It ended up pretty good. I actually didn't hit where I was told; I hit dead on the flag, and I was told I hit left center. But it worked out fine, and I had basically a 20-footer and just made it.

Q. This is your first major coming in as an LPGA winner. How does that change your mentality?

LILIA VU: I really try to not make this week bigger. I feel like that puts a lot of pressure on myself. I'm just going to do what I've been doing since it's been working out and just having fun on the golf course and appreciating the difficulty of the golf course.

Q. Do you feel like tough golf courses bring out the best in you?

LILIA VU: I think so, yeah. I usually like when it's more difficult. Easier to play one shot at a time.

Q. Whenever you're playing well, what is the swing thought that you lean on?

LILIA VU: Nothing at all. I can't even tell you when I played in Thailand that final round, I don't know what I was thinking. Probably nothing at all because I was just too nervous.

Q. Is that you trying to block out the noise, or do you just start going on feel?

LILIA VU: No, I think I just get in the zone and I just see the flag and just try to go for it.

Q. Was it that way in junior and college golf, too?

LILIA VU: I think it's just way more now. I think a little more confidence. Yeah, definitely have grown a lot from college golf, so it's a little different now.

Q. Did the rain make the course any easier out there for you?

LILIA VU: Maybe a little bit. I think the water kind of slowed down the greens a bit, but they were really fast this morning, and I'm sure it'll maybe dry off. I didn't check the weather. I didn't see how it's going to be this evening, but hopefully not a lot of rain.

Q. What sponsors do you have?

LILIA VU: I have one in the works, hat and bag in the works, but that's it about now.

Q. When you started the season, you didn't have any sponsors?

LILIA VU: Nothing, yeah.

Q. How stressful was that?

LILIA VU: I mean, I don't know that it was stressful, but I kind of thought of myself as my own sponsor since I've been having a pretty good season.

Q. Did you have some last year?

LILIA VU: I had one, yeah.

Q. Who was that?

LILIA VU: That was CabTec. But I think that was just the first half of the year.
