Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here now with Gabi Ruffels after her first round here at the Mizuho Americas Open. Very solid 4-under; bogey-free. Take us through the round.

GABRIELA RUFFELS: Yeah, it was super solid. Started off with a birdie on No. 2 and No. 3, and then it was just super solid.

I think I hit 17 greens in regulation and a lot of fairways, and around this golf course that's going to do it.

Yeah, hopefully I can continue that for the next, you know, week.

Q. I was just going to ask, how much of that accuracy, is that something you've been working on? Something that maybe last week with the narrow fairways in Utah helped out with? What went into how accurate you've been off the tee?

GABRIELA RUFFELS: Yeah, just kind of continually working on it with my coach. My coach was out here the past couple days.

It's just a process. It all just kind of clicked today. I can't really explain to you why. I wish I knew because I would try and do it every day.

Yeah, no, super solid.

Q. What about this golf course do you enjoy? How does it bring out some of your strengths?

GABRIELA RUFFELS: Yeah, I played well here last year and I always feel like if you have good memories around a golf course it creates good feelings.

I also just love this tournament. I think Michelle Wie does such a good job with this tournament. She really makes the players feel comfortable out here. Being in New York as well. New York City is probably one of my favorite cities and I love how we can just go over and kind of escape and then come back here on the ferry.

Yeah, I really like this week.

Q. We're a little bit I would say just under halfway through the season. What part of your game feels really good right now and what parts are you still trying to tweak?

GABRIELA RUFFELS: I mean, honestly it's been kind of a tough start to the year. I haven't really had my best stuff, but I feel like I haven't been playing that bad. It just hasn't really clicked I guess.

I feel like every golfer kind of goes through it. You just keep pushing on and keep trying to learn from your failures, and, yeah, just kind of keep going.

And just working on pretty much every aspect of my game.

Q. We got some weather coming in tomorrow. What's maybe the game plan or different strategies for playing in some rain potentially?

GABRIELA RUFFELS: Yeah, it was meant to rain today so we'll see how much rain we get tomorrow. I've heard different from everyone. My caddie said maybe it's a complete wash-out tomorrow and some other people have said it might clear up.

I feel like I can't really plan until day of or couple hours before. Whatever it is it'll be the same for everyone around that tee time, and just kind of go out and do my best.

Q. Last one: Obviously very unique tournament this week with the AJGA players here. How cool it to see these girls have that opportunity and have you got to spend any time with any of them?

GABRIELA RUFFELS: Yeah, no, I haven't. I saw -- I know Nikki Oh. I think she's one of the top juniors out here. I've practiced with her sometimes at Virginia Country Club. We're both members there in LA.

She's great she works so hard. You know, it's great to see her out here and how much success she's it. Also it Michelle Wie, doing this tournament, promoting the junior golfers. If I was a junior golfer I would love to play in this event alongside the pros.

So, yeah, it's really cool what she's done.
