Quick Quotes

Q. All right, joined now by Jenny Bae here at the Mizuho Americas Open after her first round. Seven birdies on the card today. What was working so well for you?

JENNY BAE: I just think the constant being in the zone and always being focused and trying to be patient -- in the present definitely helped.

I have to say my caddie helped a little bit. He definitely kept me a lot calm and told me, you know, one shot at a time. Doesn't matter if you make a mistake now. You'll always come back to it.

Q. Yeah. What do you like about Liberty National? I know it's probably your -- is it your first time out here?

JENNY BAE: Yeah.

Q. What do you like about the course and how does it bring out some of your strengths?

JENNY BAE: First of all, the scenery is amazing. I mean, even if I don't really have time to go out there and explore, I can see everything from one spot.

But I definitely feel like it fits my golf game. I can hit a lot of different shots and I'll still be able to find the fairways. Especially the greens, I feel like I'm more used to it. It's kind of similar to golf courses back home. So I feel a lot comfortable.

Q. Yeah. We're probably a couple months into your rookie season here on Tour. How comfortable are you starting to feel? Are you starting to get a little bit more lay of the land and feeling like you're ready to be out here?

JENNY BAE: I'm definitely still getting used to little things, but I definitely feel like I'm a lot more comfortable just going out there and doing my own thing.

Hopefully it pays off one day.

Q. For you, when you looked at this golf course this week, what was your game plan heading into the week knowing it's going to be a little bit more wet out here and maybe having to contend with some wind off the water?

JENNY BAE: I'm actually more used to rainy golf, seeing that I'm from Georgia. But my caddie and I were talking and we just said, we're going to try to land our targets and make sure we hit them.

If things go well, then I'll make a few putts. If not, I'll still be in it, so...

Q. Pretty settled in your rookie season now. Did you feel prepared to come out here and try to tackle this level of talent having played on the Epson Tour the last couple years?

JENNY BAE: I would say yes and know. I feel like my game is definitely there so I just have to trust it when I'm on the golf course.

Still settling in the fact that I'm still playing against one the best players in the world, so I'm just being here and trying to have fun.

Q. A little bit away from the golf course, it's obviously May, which is Asian American -- Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, like that heritage month. You're such a role model to girls in Georgia being out here. There is not a ton of you guys. What does it mean to represent your community on the LPGA Tour every week?

JENNY BAE: I honestly I haven't thought about it, but I know there are a lot of girls out there when you go back home. It's nice that I can go talk to them and tell them what my experience was here and hopefully that will be their next step.

I'm just super excited for them, you know. I mean, I can't wait to see and hopefully compete with them soon.

Q. Obviously this event is unique having AJGA girls out here. What does that mean to be able to inspire them while you're going to be playing alongside of them hopefully this weekend?

JENNY BAE: I think it means a lot for women's golf. You know, I mean, seeing all these young talented girls out here and they're trying their best and hopefully being able to, you know, raise the trophy at the end of the week, I think it's amazing.

I hope they can inspire other people in future generations.

Q. How do you build on this going forward? Solid start.

JENNY BAE: I think I'm just going to keep my head down and just do the same thing I did today: Just stay in the patient and just communicate with my caddie and hopefully the scores will be low.
