Quick Quotes

Q. Joined now by Lindy Duncan after her first round at the Mizuho Americas Open. Just take us through the round today. A lot of birdies on the card.

LINDY DUNCAN: Yeah, got off to a great start. Made a couple birdies in the first couple holes and was hitting them pretty close. Wind picked up a little and still was able to make some birdies on the front nine, which was my back nine.

Q. You ended your front, which is the back, bogey, bogey. Then picked it up and went bogey-free on the front, which is your back. What are you telling yourself in that moment? You just went bogey, bogey. New fresh nine. What do you tell yourself?

LINDY DUNCAN: Yeah, I got off to such a great start to make two bogeys back to back. I was a little bummed because I had a three putt on 17. Hit two pretty good shots.

And then 18 the wind is pretty hard right to left, so my drive just went a little bit left and ended up in a bunker.

So that kind of stuff happens, but I felt like I was playing well, hitting it well, putting it well, so I just tried to stay in it.

Q. What do you like about Liberty National and how does it bring out some of your strengths?

LINDY DUNCAN: Yeah, I think it's a really cool, fun course. There is a lot going on on every shot. There is lots of slopes, even in the fairways, so trying to finish the ball on some flat areas.

And then when the wind picks up, there is a lot going on, but it's really fun. The greens are pretty soft so we tried to be pretty aggressive when we had like a 7-iron or less.

Q. We've gotten to talk to you quite a bit these last couple weeks. Coming off Chevron, is there anything with your game that's working a lot? Was that a confidence building week? What is it?

LINDY DUNCAN: I think it was huge for confidence definitely. I definitely am going to take a lot of positives from that for hopefully a long time.

That was a pretty big deal for me. But my game felt really good even going into Chevron. So this whole year he's been feeling pretty good.

Q. Not a local on the bag this week. You have Nasa's caddie; I forget his name. How much of a help has he been for you?

LINDY DUNCAN: Yeah, he's awesome. Greg Johnston; he's the man. I worked with him in the past quite a few times, so it's very comfortable. He's super smart on the course. We have similar way of seeing shots, and, yeah, I just love being out there with him. He cracks me up all day.

Q. Last one: Such a unique week this week with the AJGA girls. How awesome of an opportunity is that and have you got to connect with any of them?

LINDY DUNCAN: Yeah, I had lunch with Avery McCrery; she's going to Duke. She's playing great, so I hope she has a great day tomorrow. I would love a chance to play with her on the weekend. That would be so much fun.

But it was really cool to get to know her. We have quite a few Duke players out here, and we hang out a lot. We go to Duke dinners and it's really nice to have that common bond.

Q. Was there a Duke women's golf secret you maybe shared with her as she is getting ready for her freshman year?

LINDY DUNCAN: No, there is no -- no, there is no secret. I just wanted her to just -- because my perspective on my college experience was that I wish that I had enjoyed it a little bit more.

Not worried so much about school and she's super smart so I think the school is going to be probably easier for her than it was for me. To just enjoy it. It's such a cool part of your life. Team golf, once it's over it's kind of over. So I just -- my advice was just enjoy it.
