Quick Quotes

Q. Okay, here with Jenny Shin after her first round here at the Mexico Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba. 4-under round; seven birdies. Tell me how you got off to such a great start here.

JENNY SHIN: I actually don't remember because it's so hot. I don't remember the first birdie.

But, yeah, hit some really good shots and some bad ones, hence the double bogey on 16.

Overall I think I putted pretty well and hit some good shots coming into the green.

Q. Was that key today? Was it the putting or were your approach shots -- what led to the birdies?

JENNY SHIN: Definitely putting. Yeah, made some long ones, important putts, whether it was for par or a 10-footer for birdie.

So, yeah, I'm happy with 27 putts I had today.

Q. You mentioned it being hot. How do you prepare for that? How do you stay in the zone and play when it's so oppressively hot out here?

JENNY SHIN: I didn't anticipate heat like this. I was really shocked when I got here. Definitely does feel like I'm in Southeast Asia.

Been hydrating a lot. Drinking a lot of salted water. A lot of electrolytes. I haven't really been practicing, so I'm going to head straight to the hotel room after this.

Q. What did the preparation look like this week? I know we're on a resort so we have fun things to do and things to prepare for. What have you been doing in the leadup to today?

JENNY SHIN: Yeah, if I hadn't had my U.S. Open next week I think I would've participated in a lot of the activities. Been spending a lot of time indoors cooling off, yeah, conserving my energy.
