Q. Great to see you make the weekend in your home country. I know that was really important for you, Maria. Tell us about coming down the stretch. Got a little bit unlucky at 17, didn't you?
MARIA FASSI: Yeah, honestly extremely proud of the work I did out there today. Obviously super happy I get to play two more days in Mexico.
But just in general I'm happy I get two more days to go at it obviously preparing for the U.S. Women's Open next week. I think it's such a great test of golf. I just wanted to keep seeing it and keep seeing good golf shots.
So, yeah, like you said, tough break there on 17, but it just kind of ignited a little fire in me knowing I could get to 18, and closing with that birdie in front of the crowds, it was, yeah, very emotional and special for me.
Q. We saw you hit it in the divot on the tee shot at 17, and you were telling me just a moment ago that your chip shot hit a pitch mark as well, there was kind of a double unlucky break there. But you make that birdie at 18, as you said, very important. What was going through your mind there over that birdie putt.
MARIA FASSI: Actually, at The Open qualifier last week I had a similar one on the last hole; missed it. So I had texted Annika, Angela Stanford and Lorena and Stacy Lewis, I asked them, hey, you guys have had to make a lot of putts in your lifetime. What do you do differently?
They each gave me their opinion and perspective on things. I feel like I just put all their pieces of advice in a blender and executed properly on 18, so I'm very happy that I have all four of them in my corner. I respect them as people, as golfers obviously.
Yeah, I just knew I had to take a couple extra deep breaths and just trust my putter was going to take care of it.
Q. Says a lot about you that you can talk to those legends and you would think to reach out to them at an important time in your career, important time of the season. Tell us about playing in Mexico in front of your home crowd, what that means to you, golf in the country and the LPGA Tour.
MARIA FASSI: I think it's so important to have it back. I picked up a golf club because having the LPGA come to Bosque Real and me wanting to follow Lorena around. It's just so big for exposure. I think the sport is growing a lot out here, but we were still lagging a little bit behind on the women's side without a golf tournament.
So being able to bring the girls out here, show them our country, show them a very challenging golf course, it's a lot of fun. For me, I mean, it means the world. The guy that taught me how to play golf, my family invited him to come out. It's the first time he's watched me compete as a professional.
So it's been a very, very emotional week and just very relieved I get to do to two more days.
