Kelly Tan

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here with Kelly Tan. Minus-3. Talk us through your round.

KELLY TAN: Yeah, I thought today's round went really well. Everything went executed pretty well out there. Hit a lot of fairways and gave myself a lot of looks and I saw I think the 15 greens so obviously a lot of birdie chances.

Yeah, I made a few, so it was nice.

Q. Must be good to come back here and play well.

KELLY TAN: Yeah, it's been a while, so it's always nice to play in Malaysia, give the Malaysian fans something to cheer for for the local players.

Excited for the week. It's only round one and excited for the next three rounds.

Q. So you had bogeys on the 9th and 10th. Can you talk about those?

KELLY TAN: Yeah, just a couple misjudged. Those were actually my two shots today that I would love to go back and hit again.

Yeah, just pulled my 7-iron on 9 and went in the bunker and had a tough lie so I didn't get up and down there.

On No. 10, I actually was a little unlucky. I layup just in the rough. I think I was maybe ten inches in the right rough and caught a flier. Yeah, nothing I could control. So took my medicine and came home with a few more birdies.

Q. Are you happy with your round?

KELLY TAN: Yeah, obviously you're never happy -- it wasn't a perfect golf round; left a few out there. Yeah, I'm very happy with the way I executed. Yeah, people always say you can't win the golf tournament on the first day, right?

I'm happy that I kept myself in it and gave myself chances.

Q. (Regarding resetting with two birdies to end the round.)

KELLY TAN: Yeah, I think it's just the mindset of like knowing that you have the game and giving yourself chances. I just try to focus on the next shot and all I can set myself up for a birdie look. That's all I was focusing on.

Q. Kelly, what will be most likely be the difference tomorrow?

KELLY TAN: I just need God to roll the ball in for me. Seemed like I hit the ball really good today and few more putts could have dropped. Like the last hole that came up just a few inches short.

Felt like my longer putts today were a little weaker with the speed, so maybe I'll pay more attention to my longer putts and just keep doing the same thing.

Q. You mention your up and down.

KELLY TAN: Yeah, played a pretty solid round today. Gave myself a lot of chances out there. You know, it's golf. You can't hit every shot perfect. I'm more than happy that I was able to recover from my mistake and gave myself a lot more looks coming home. Made a few birdies.

Q. (Indiscernible.) This course not that easy. Even though you played here almost every year?

KELLY TAN: Yeah, KLGC is a beautiful and challenging course. It's got its teeth, but for us we kind of know the course so we have a lot of -- we play here enough to know where to hit the ball.

For us it's more about mental preparation. Playing at home is always hard but fun at the same time, to be able to play in front of family and friends.

So I think the expectation usually is through the roof. You just want to do so well and make your country proud. I think this week for me I just to keep it as low-key as I can and enjoy myself.

I know that I've got the talent and I just got to relax and not be too nervous and execute.

Q. Which hole you think challenge you, risk management?

KELLY TAN: I think our risk and reward hole is on 16 because they move us up to try and go for it. I birdie that so that was really good.

I think I only have two bogeys on the card today, which is 9 and 10. I would probably say 9 and 10 for me today because I bogeyed them.

But, yeah, just try and hit the fairway and green tomorrow. See if I can better the score.
