Q. Okay, Mirabel Ting, great round today, just talk us through today.
MIRABEL TING: Yeah, I mean, I had a really good start. I birdied the first hole. But I just tried to tell myself to stay patient. You know, if the putt does drop, it will. If it doesn't drop, just keep calm and just be patient and it will drop.
That's what I did the entire round and played really well today.
Q. Tee-to-green what was working well?
MIRABEL TING: My putting was really good today. You know, just left couple putts out there still, and my irons were pretty decent and definitely hit a lot of fairways.
Q. Coming off of Q-School final stage I guess.
MIRABEL TING: Yeah, definitely a little bit of boost over there. You know, wasn't really playing well before Q-School. Struggled a little bit right after I turned professional.
But I just kept telling myself, yeah, professional golf is hard. But we're just trying to get out there every day and enjoy every second. That's what I did. Turned out pretty well today.
Q. You drop one or two shots and then you pick up again. On the last hole you had birdie. So what was going through your mind?
MIRABEL TING: Not really. I bogeyed the sixth hole. I was just telling myself, that's fine. I mean, absolutely fine. Just once I bogey that hole I knew it was coming. I knew something special was coming.
I birdied the next hole and it's just the type of feeling that I have sometimes with my game. You know, just works out sometimes.
Q. How you feel first time compared to second time?
MIRABEL TING: Like I said last year probably the back nine was a lot tougher for me. You know, but I handle the back nine pretty well today with bogey-free on the back nine, one bogey on the front.
Definitely the front nine is easier for me.
Q. How does that feel on the first day to be in the top 10?
MIRABEL TING: Well, it's nice to feel that way, but there is a lot of game to be played. We still have 54 more holes to go, so I'm not trying to look at the leaderboard too much and just focusing on what I have to do on the golf course and just keep playing, you know, and see where it takes me.
Q. Any difference between playing as an amateur and as a pro now?
MIRABEL TING: Definitely a lot of pressure and expectations, but I kind of put everything aside and try not to think too much and just at the end of the day amateur and professional you are still hitting the golf ball by yourself. You know, you're not -- you're doing the same thing.
So that doesn't make a difference. So I just always keep that in mind and just played today.
Q. Just mentioned that if one of your shots doesn't drop you just tell yourself to keep calm. Would you say that you're just a mentally strong person naturally?
MIRABEL TING: No. It's just that I have made a lot of mistakes in the past on the golf course, and when I start bogeying and I get really nervous, here comes the bogey train.
But once I bogey I knew that I just have to let it go, which I did today. I had a couple birdies coming back in. You know, that's how the way I played golf today.
Q. So what's the plan tomorrow? Keep on?
MIRABEL TING: Yeah, I will just keep on doing what I'm doing today. Just going to head off to hit a little bit of putts on the range and get home as soon as possible to rest up. It's very, very hot.
