Brooklyn, New York, USA

Collin Murray-Boyles

Q. Heading into the draft, there was a possibility that you could be the first lottery pick in South Carolina history. Now you're here. What's your reaction and how does it feel?

COLLIN MURRAY-BOYLES: I'm thankful. That's the biggest thing. It's crazy to be here. Surreal moment for me and my family. For South Carolina history. I'm from South Carolina, so that's really important for me, really staying home. That's something that has grown with me since being there.

I'm thankful for that accolade of being the first lottery pick. But I want to be one of the best.

Q. I know you've got a lot of priorities going into the season, obviously, and a lot of goals in mind. How high on the priority list is the goal to become boys with Drake and have him rock your uniform?

COLLIN MURRAY-BOYLES: (Laughing) I guess it is on the list. But it's going to obviously take a lot of work, so we'll see. I know I'm ready to work, ready to rep the city. We're going to see.

Q. How dope would that be?

COLLIN MURRAY-BOYLES: That would be amazing.

Q. Rocking your jersey courtside at a game?

COLLIN MURRAY-BOYLES: That would be crazy.

Q. DeMar DeRozan went ninth overall to the Raptors. T-Mac went ninth overall to the Raptors. How does it feel amongst the ninth overall pick royalty?

COLLIN MURRAY-BOYLES: I did not know that. That's crazy, now that you said it. Yeah, that's a great group of guys, great talent. Hopefully I can live up to that hype.

Q. And Jakob Poeltl?

COLLIN MURRAY-BOYLES: Yeah, for real, though, dang.

Q. There's something about that number?

COLLIN MURRAY-BOYLES: There's something about No. 9.

Q. You had Chloe Kitts with you, University of South Carolina standout, national champion. What has it been like, that relationship with Chloe, and also how has being around the South Carolina women's basketball team helped your mindset and outlook in your game?

COLLIN MURRAY-BOYLES: I don't know. She's amazing for me. She knows the sacrifices that this comes with, of being a basketball player, especially professional basketball player. So she understands that, and she fully embraces it. She never takes anything for granted, never takes my time for granted.

I never take her for granted, as well. Enjoying each other's company as much as possible. She's been really good for me. Obviously she plays on the women's team. How they play is something that I like to watch. How fast they go is almost relatable to how fast the NBA goes and how fast paced it is. I watch Dawn Staley a lot and see what she does, and that will be what it is for me at the next level.
