Q. Assess the day overall.
DUSTIN JOHNSON: I kind of grinded it out. I didn't have my best stuff, but I felt like he managed the golf course very well and took advantage of the opportunities when I had it. Made some crucial saves there on the back side.
Yeah, it was a good day. I hit a really nice putt on 18 that didn't go in, but very pleased with how I played and the score I shot.
Q. Did the course play the way you thought it was going to play through practice rounds?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: It played hard. Our front nine it seemed like the wind was blowing every direction but the direction it was supposed to be blowing into, which made it even more difficult trying to figure out because it wasn't like it was a light breeze. It was enough to affect the ball quite a bit.
Yeah, the golf course played really difficult, but I felt like they set it up really nice. It was fair. You just had to hit good golf shots.
Q. DJ, you made a lot of nice par saves today. Was that a key for you just getting up and down from everywhere?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Making those 5-, 6-footers for par are huge for momentum to stay in the round and keep things going, especially on a golf course as tough as this where you don't get a whole lot of close birdie looks.
Like I said, I'm pleased with how it went. I hit one really bad shot on 14. That was about it, but somehow scraped out a 4. Other than that, yeah, it was a pretty nice day.
Q. You looked at the club at 14 like there might have been something wrong with it.
DUSTIN JOHNSON: No, it's not an unusual shot for me to hit with a 3-wood. You know, a heel slice, that's in the repertoire. I was pretty surprised because I felt like I was swinging pretty good, so it was a little surprise, but it is what it is. It made a nice 4.
