Thomas Bjorn

Q. Talk about your memories of here and how you see the golf course.

THOMAS BJORN: My memories of here, I can't remember that far back. I just remember it was the best golf course I thought I'd ever played when I came here in '97.

Q. How old were you then? 26 I was. It's an amazing golf course. I can't believe how much it's changed. It's a completely different golf course.

But it will be interesting. I'm not quite sure we're that used to playing -- this is big boys' golf. I think when I was 30, I would have really, really loved everything about it. Now at this age, these things get hard to do. But then again, it's all in the setup. If they get it right and just about make it doable, then it'll be great. It is a great championship golf course. I'll look forward to it. Yeah, fun week?

Q. What could work for you this week if things go well?

THOMAS BJORN: Iron play becomes hugely important. Probably one of the golf courses I've seen where iron play is more important than anything else. We always talk about driving and putting, and obviously you have to hit the ball in the fairway, but the fairways are pretty generous here. Iron play becomes -- with these greens becomes so important to put yourself in the right areas, and then acceptance. I think you've got to have a lot of -- U.S. Open combined with a links golf mindset, a lot of acceptance in that things are not going to go your way. You're going to hit a lot of good shots that don't end up in great places. So you've got to have a lot of acceptance this week that you've just got to keep grinding it out. I don't think the scoring is going to be very low. I think it's going to be pretty tough.

Q. I was talking with (indiscernible) this morning about why he resisted to come back to the Ryder Cup in an official position, and he said this is going to be a tough one, that he felt this is the moment to come back to the States and help. Is that your feeling?

THOMAS BJORN: Listen, for me it's like -- I said it to Luke after Rome when he got the captaincy again that I would do it for him. We had a very great group, a great group of players but also great behind with Luke as captain, and I enjoy that environment. But in general I don't think -- for me in general it feels like -- because it was such a good experience in Rome, we liked the idea of being part of it again. I think had it been a completely different setup we would have stepped away from it and let some other guys create a new environment. But because it's Luke, I think we feel it's a nice group of guys and we get on well and understand each other well. It's going to be tough, but they always are. It's time to get everything right and do the things you can control and do them well and then see what the score is at the end of the day.
