THE MODERATOR: We're here with Jason Caron at the 2025 Senior PGA Championship. 2-under on the day. Jason, how do you feel about your round overall?
JASON CARON: Very pleased. The golf course was tough, especially we had that misty rain for most of the front nine, and then we actually dumped the stuff back in the locker because we had to wait, and then it started misting again on 11. It was kind of a little crazy out there with the weather. Starting to get nice out there right now, but I could hear them say that there's maybe weather coming in.
All in all, really pleased with my round. I drove it great today. I had a nice little warmup this morning early and then putted the great, too. Overall I can't really complain about shooting under par at this place.
Q. What was the mindset in these conditions? What do you have to do?
JASON CARON: You've got to hit it in the fairway. If you don't hit it in the fairway, you're going to struggle, and I had the ball in the fairway maybe every hole today, to be honest. Then if you can hit a decent iron shot -- I think if you can make pars here, that's huge. We were talking about it, Brett Quigley is staying with us this week, and we all said if we can get to even par for the week, you're going to be right there. If this weather goes away and they want to dry this place out, it could be really tough come Sunday.
Q. When you have rain like this, do you slow down things? Do you try to calm down --
JASON CARON: Yeah, being in the first group, it's kind of nice because there's no one in front of you. No one is really pushing you at all. And we kept the ball in play, the three of us. It was kind of nice out there, nice little walk, even though the weather wasn't great.
Again, mindset-wise you just have to make sure you make pars. That's the key out here.
Q. You're not the defending champion, but does it feel like this is where it all began --
JASON CARON: It did. I mean, for sure. Who would have known a year ago today that all this stuff would happen to me. I wouldn't say -- like you said, it's not defending champion, but it has good vibes being back in this event.
I've been playing pretty good this year. The last couple weeks were a little sketchy, but today it showed that my game is starting to get ready for the team event with me and Brett Quigley, so we're hoping to pull one off there. We're pretty excited about the week. I've got my family back here this week, Liz and the kids and my parents are here and cousins and some friends, as well. So it's great.
Q. Because they were not all with you last year in Michigan?
JASON CARON: They were, but my brother is the only one not here this year. He has to work, so he couldn't get out of work. We had a houseful last year, too, so it was nice.
Q. When you rank your short game, irons, driving, where does driving rank?
JASON CARON: When I was younger I drove it everywhere I felt like. I never hit fairways. Now I feel like I drive the ball very well. I might not be the longest but I try to hit the ball solid and hopefully it goes pretty straight.
I would say this year if you looked at my stats, it might not show that I've driven it great, but I still feel like I have driven it pretty well. A lot of times you're just in the rough or first cut and that's still not bad out here. Same with greens; you might hit a green but the ball just runs into the first cut and you can still putt it, but statistically it says it's a missed green.
