THE MODERATOR: We're here with Jeff Gove at the 2025 Senior PGA Championship. 2-under, how was your round out there?
JEFF GOVE: Pretty good. I haven't played a lot of golf lately, so I'm excited to get back in the competitiveness. Started out with a couple birdies, hung in there all day and then it got pretty tough our back nine. A couple little errors here and there, but overall played really well, so it was a lot of fun.
Q. You're a member of the Corebridge Financial team here this week with another 36 guys. What does it mean to be part of that group?
JEFF GOVE: It's an honor. As a guy that works now at a club, the Idaho Club in Sand Point, Idaho, teaching members and doing membership stuff, it's definitely an honor. The club pros are the ones that make this game go, so proud to be a part of that, and thank them for their sponsorship.
Q. What's your personal way of dealing with these conditions, and how do you adapt to this?
JEFF GOVE: You just try to stay really patient, swing smooth, don't try to overdo it. Misjudged a couple shots today, cost me a couple bogeys. But the greens got a little slower towards the end there and was leaving some putts short, but I remember how fast they were in the practice rounds. Just trying to -- par is a good score right now the last eight, ten holes. Just try and get in the house. I got off to a good start, which was nice. Just stayed patient.
Q. You were talking about the club; how much follow-up do you get from your club? How much do they check on you during the week and see how you're doing?
JEFF GOVE: I got a lot of text messages this morning and told everybody I was coming back here to play. They were excited. I got to play here back in 2007, Tiger's event, so excited to come back. Played a few events the last few years, Senior Opens and stuff. Yeah, it's tough. They're super supportive, and it's great for me to try and teach them how to play golf.
It's fun to know they're back there rooting for me.
Q. What's it like to have played so many years on the PGA TOUR, pro golf at that level, and what's that compared to what you're here for this week? Is there a difference with your mindset?
JEFF GOVE: You know, I'm here to have a good time, and I feel like if I get in contention, I'm going to know what to do. But I don't have the reps or anything, so I'm trying not to get frustrated when I don't hit good shots. But I definitely fell right back into my routine, picturing good shots, so I can see all that.
I would love to get out and play on this tour for a few years now that my kids are a little older. The last five or six years I focused on them in high school and we moved to northern Idaho and it's been great, but I would love to play a few years out here for sure.
Q. Was there a point today where you actually did stop, stand off to the side for 15, 20 minutes?
JEFF GOVE: Well, we just finished, so I just came off the course. I didn't have a chance to think about it yet.
Q. But when you were on the course today, did they stop play at all?
JEFF GOVE: No, we just kept going. There was never any lightning. It got pretty brutal out there on holes 3, 4, 5, 6. It got really windy and the rain was coming down hard. I thought we were going to get a break and then another front came in as we were coming in.
Yeah, the course is really fun to play. It's not anything like I remember. It's fun to be in a course that's in this immaculate condition and the greens are perfect. Really, really a treat to be here.
