THE MODERATOR: Chris, bogey-free 65. Excellent round. If we can get some comments on your play?
CHRIS GOTTERUP: Yeah, I feel like I really managed my ball well today. Even if I missed fairways, I missed it in the right spot. I was always playing for a good angle.
I got a lucky break on five. That's about all it took today, but yeah, it's just a good day.
THE MODERATOR: You talked a little bit about coming in fresh this week. Talk a little bit about that.
CHRIS GOTTERUP: Yeah, I finally got a week at home. I had been, I don't know what it was, 13 out of 14 weeks the last couple of months. I would love to play the PGA, but I was at home on the couch watching sports and hanging out at home.
So it was good to be home, and I drove down from home this week, so it makes it even nicer to have your own car and everything. I like that.
THE MODERATOR: What is the commute for you this week?
CHRIS GOTTERUP: I live, like, three and a half hours away, but I got my own ride. It makes everything feel a little more like home when you're in your own stuff.
THE MODERATOR: Four straight top 25s and five out of the last six. Just talk a little bit about your play of late, how consistent you've been.
CHRIS GOTTERUP: Yeah, it's been good. I've kind of been waiting for this. I feel like when I was on Korn Ferry, I was very consistent week in, week out. Obviously this is the PGA TOUR, not Korn Ferry, but I feel like I've been kind of waiting and grinding to get to this point.
So I'm happy to see it pay off, and I definitely feel like I'm in a good spot, but there's a lot more to be had.
THE MODERATOR: Speaking of a good spot, you're currently No. 1 in the Aon Swing 5. Is that something you're thinking about, trying to get into the Memorial next week?
CHRIS GOTTERUP: No, it's a bunched leaderboard. I know there's going to be some good rounds. By the afternoon I probably won't even be in that position, so I don't really care about it right now. Hopefully Sunday you say that, and I'll be happy about that.
THE MODERATOR: Last, just talk a little bit about the conditions today compared to yesterday.
CHRIS GOTTERUP: Yeah, way, way easier this morning than yesterday. It was windy, really firm yesterday. Hard to hold greens with wedges.
Today I'm assuming it rained a pretty good amount last night for it to be as soft as it was, but yeah, I mean -- soft as it was being relative, obviously. Yeah, the course is in great shape. I mean, if it gets windy, it's going to dry out again this afternoon. I wouldn't mind if it gets windy.
