THE MODERATOR: Matti, can I just ask about the bunker shot on 17? What was the lie like, and what were your options?
MATTI SCHMID: Well, it was blocked, and there was not a lot of sand, I would say, so I knew it would kind of come out hot.
I mean, the only two places were right of the green or long left, and I think then I would have had to chip up and over. So right even though the grass was a bit more tricky, I think the up-and-down was a little more straightforward. At that point I just tried to make a 5, and thankfully I did it.
Q. (Indiscernible)
MATTI SCHMID: Yeah, 18 was not a good wedge shot. It was not a good number. I had to smooth a 52 with hard wind off the right and a pretty hard slope, so not an easy shot. Obviously was not very good.
Then a chip. Yeah, honestly I just tried to hit it long left a little bit. Hit it pretty high so it would stop quite quickly and just came out a bit right and went in, yeah. A bit of luck, but deserved it.
Q. How was the fight out there today? How was the golf course? Scores didn't look as accessible today as they have been in the previous three days.
MATTI SCHMID: Yeah, honestly it was the second day for me like playing with really gusty winds, and we had the wind quartering again a lot, a lot of crosswinds again. Yeah, it's really difficult.
It's so tough to hit some of these fairways. I mean, 15, I don't know how many people hit that fairway, but late it's almost impossible, I would say. I had a beautiful 3-wood, and no chance.
You just have to play the angles, have to play for some up-and-downs, have to hit some short of the greens, and hopefully you can take advantage of the few chances you get.
Q. You fought back on the back nine to make it tight. How do you stay in it when you see things sort of going sideways?
MATTI SCHMID: Yeah, you know, obviously it wasn't a very good start, even though I don't think I deserved to be 3-over after, whatever, five or six. I hit a lot of quality shots actually.
Two is a very silly bogey, I would say. I had a decent tee shot. Just bad lie, but after the sixth hole I said I just want to stay in it. I want to play my own game.
I know if I keep hitting it like that, I will have some birdie opportunities, and thankfully I made a few. Yeah, then the last one is a bonus.
Q. Matti, with this performance, you've qualified through the Aon Swing 5 for the Memorial. Can you talk about how important it is to play well in events that can qualify you for a Signature Event?
MATTI SCHMID: Yeah, my first time playing a Signature Event. I'm really looking forward to it. I must say, I've only heard great things. So, yeah, finally I made one Signature Event. I feel like I was close a couple of times in those Aon 5, so I'm really looking forward to it.
Q. Have you ever met Jack Nicklaus? Do you any history with the Nicklauses?
MATTI SCHMID: No, never met him. Just watched him on TV.
