Quick Quotes

Q. Eric, season low 63 today for you. Talk about the day overall.

ERIC COLE: Yeah, it was a great day. Everything was kind of working well. I got off to a really good start. I saw, I kind of knew going into it that it was going to be a harder course, firmer conditions. Getting off to that start and realizing how much harder the course was today was great. Then, yeah, just kept trying to hit good shots one after the next and make birdies when you can.

Q. Is there something specific that you learned about the course that will be key for tomorrow?

ERIC COLE: Not necessarily. I think it will play similar to today if there's wind. There's no rain, so it's not going to get any softer. So just be prepared for probably another difficult day that requires a lot of good quality shots.

Q. You talked about the course being different today with how it's firmed up, but other than the six-hole stretch yesterday, seems like you've been solid all week.

ERIC COLE: Yeah, I actually played pretty well yesterday. I just kind of got on the wrong side of a couple breaks. I hit one or two bad shots in there too and just kind of snowballed into some bogeys. But you're right, I have for the most part, for most of the week I played pretty well.

Q. How do you keep a stretch like this from derailing you?

ERIC COLE: It's just all how you frame it. I kind of thought of it, as a 72-hole tournament, it's pretty likely that you're going to have a stretch of bad holes. So I was kind of just thinking, oh, at least we got it out of the way and now we can go play some good golf.

Q. You've been around golf your whole life, still looking for that first PGA win. How do you prepare yourself mentally for that? I know you had some opportunities in the past.

ERIC COLE: No, it's not going to be an easy day tomorrow, I know that from my experience. I know that it's going to be difficult, but that's why I practice really hard and that's why I try and do everything the way I do so that I could be as prepared for whatever tomorrow brings.

Q. You were in control of a lot of things today on the golf course. What most?

ERIC COLE: My iron play was good. I did a really good job -- my caddy did a great job of getting the wind right. When we weren't sure we kind of waited and kind of waited for the right conditions for the shot we had. But I would say probably my iron play was really solid the whole day.

Q. I saw the little chip-in on 16. I didn't see your entire round, were there other little breaks like that that really made a difference?

ERIC COLE: I played mostly solid. I don't know if I -- I made kind of a longer putt on 1. Then really just played solid. I didn't get myself in any bad positions or anything like that. Other than the bogey I made on 15, that was really the only time I was out of position. So it was relatively, on a course like this in those conditions it was as stress-free as it could be, I would say.

Q. What about this course speaks to you?

ERIC COLE: I love the old style of it where the holes kind of run back and forth. It remind me of some old courses in Florida I grew up playing, or played mini-tour events on and stuff. So, yeah, just -- and there is a bonus for hitting a good drive. The fairways are very tight and kind of dogleg and firm, so when you do hit a good drive you really gain something on kind of the rest of the field. So I like that aspect of playing a course like this versus just getting up and bombing it at maybe some other courses.
