Quick Quotes

Q. When you get done with a round like this and you have a 66, it's pretty adventurous, four bogeys, an eagle and six birdies?

HAROLD VARNER III: Yeah, at the end of the day, it's 4-under. I think that's a really good score. It's a great start, but we understand that it's not how you start, it's how you finish. I'm looking forward to the challenge. Nothing spectacular. I like this place. I think my scores prove that. We'll be prepared at whatever time I go tomorrow, 1:00 something.

Q. How did the conditions change when you were out there? Did the wind --

HAROLD VARNER III: No, it did not. It was perfectly calm this morning. You could hear yourself talk to your caddie; it was awesome. And then around No. 11 it just started pumping. It doesn't scare me, but you just have to think a little bit more. You have to be pretty precise around here, and when the wind gets up you've just got to be -- a caddie's nightmare, I guess.

Q. Talk about the stretch of 10, 11, 12; I think it was birdie-eagle-birdie. What did that do for you?

HAROLD VARNER III: I think it did a lot. I was 4-under on three holes; is that right? Yeah, I think that's what it would be, and it was awesome. I went up the leaderboard, and that's what you're supposed to do. That's why I'm kind of confused by the question.

It was good. It was good. But we got on the next tee box and it was the hardest shot of the day. All that doesn't matter if you don't execute the next shot.

Q. At the end of the day you feel good about where you're at?

HAROLD VARNER III: Yeah, wouldn't you? Yeah, when you're on the top, yeah, that's a great spot to be.
