Quick Quotes

Q. 4-under 66; nice round today. If we can get some comments on your day.

PAT PEREZ: Yeah, I started off good, and then I hit a shank basically on 4, and kind of one on 5. I had a good look on 6. I didn't really -- I had kind of a stretch there from 5 to 9 where I was grinding out big par putts and didn't hit it that great and then I made a nice one on 10. I kind of turned like a 3-over into 4-under somehow. I just made a ton of putts. I played like nine holes good, and the other nine were kind of suspect, but I managed to save some amazing pars.

Q. Currently leading the field, I know it's early, but in strokes gained putting today.

PAT PEREZ: Yeah, it was getting comical because I said, why not waste all my putts I've made in one week. It was nice.

Q. 17th start at this event, you love this golf course. Talk a little bit about that.

PAT PEREZ: I do. It's a course I feel like I can play well at because it's not an ultra long course. It's a position course. Some irons off the tee, and it's old school. You've got a long par-3, No. 4, 5 is a great hole for anybody.

If you look over the years, it hasn't really favored one type of player. It's kind of like THE PLAYERS where anybody that's on with their irons and hits it in the fairway and putts well wins that week. I just love it around here. The fans are amazing, the members, everybody that's -- the whole deal, the whole tournament is just run phenomenally.

I don't know, we love coming here. I love the tournament, love the course. It's just one of the great spots on TOUR.

Q. You talked about the weather kind of changing this weekend, a little south westerly wind. Do you feel comfortable knowing you know this golf course so well to be able to play in those conditions?

PAT PEREZ: Yeah, I'd actually rather have it harder than no wind and really, really hot and sweating because I played in so many times with a lot of wind that I kind of know what I'm doing, so if I can hit it solid, like I said, and kind of hit my corners I'm looking for on each hole and make some putts, who knows, I might get close to the end there.

Q. Is this kind of one of those courses you feel that you can still win on?

PAT PEREZ: Yeah, this one, Sony, Hilton Head, the shorter ones. They are getting longer. They're getting really long, and I'm really looking forward to getting to 50 in three and a half years. But it's encouraging that I can still shoot 7-under for two days here. It's not like it's short. It's one of the more -- I think just the experience, how many rounds I've played here has really helped me get around, because I've hit it kind of everywhere. I've hit it all over this place. I've been all over the rough, short sided and everywhere around the greens, and I just kind of have a nice understanding of what the course is about.
