Q. Another good finish here in the Quad Cities. What is it with you and this place?
HAROLD VARNER III: I don't really know but I'm playing really well. It's good. I'll say I like it. I'm playing well, but I've played well here a few times, and just -- I just hate playing bad, so eventually it's going to turn around. It's a season for a reason, and I just want to make it to East Lake, so you're not going to get there without playing well, so wherever we play we need to play well, and hopefully I'll play well next week.
Q. How tough were the conditions out there when it was raining?
HAROLD VARNER III: It was not tough at all. Look at the scores. Everyone is making birdies. Even though it's raining, it seems like the scores are still low. I don't think it's tough. If you want to win, you've got to play well, no matter what the conditions are.
Yeah, it was okay. I mean, yesterday was a great preparation for today with a lot going on, but I don't play well with a jacket on, so I'm soaking wet right now.
Q. Talk about yesterday; you mentioned just a 1-under par round yesterday kind of put you behind the 8-ball --
HAROLD VARNER III: Don't remind me. It was terrible. I putted so well yesterday and they didn't go in. That's just how it goes sometimes. It's life; stuff is not going to go your way, and obviously responded well today.
Q. Talk to me a little bit about the British Open --
HAROLD VARNER III: Never been there to where it is now, but I'm super excited. I'm going to pull against England here for a little bit. My caddie is from Liverpool, so I'm going to talk some smack. I'm going to go get some toothpaste, I'm going to get some deodorant and I'll be ready to go by Thursday.
Q. Did you bring any warm clothing?
HAROLD VARNER III: I did not, no. I literally had no pants, outerwear, but since you can't go outside your house so it doesn't matter. All I need is golf clothes. The van has most of my weather gear in it, so I'll be totally fine. We'll figure it out.
Q. So you are jumping on the charter?
HAROLD VARNER III: Damn right I am.
Q. We've had guys --
HAROLD VARNER III: No, don't give me that -- oh, I did have to get a friend to bring my passport in. There's a story for you.
Q. When did that come in?
HAROLD VARNER III: Once I found out I was first alternate I had to call him, so he said, I'll do it, whatever. He watched today, so it might be a good luck charm. But I think everyone is in a good situation. I think it's really different for people that are not from America. I don't see why you wouldn't play in a major. This year I didn't try to qualify for the U.S. Open, and I regret that right now. I don't know, you just don't play golf forever at a high level, so you want to give yourself a chance to do well.
Q. When did you find out that you got a spot?
HAROLD VARNER III: This morning.
Q. Before you teed off?
HAROLD VARNER III: Yes, before I teed off. It was awesome. Hideki gave me a favor.
Q. Did that change your outlook on this round today?
HAROLD VARNER III: No, not at all. No, I didn't -- no. I was pretty free. I was in 30th place. I'm never really not free.
