Quick Quotes

Q. Scott, great round. Set yourself up for a great Sunday. What's been working the last couple weeks?

SCOTT STALLINGS: I think more attitude than anything. I made an equipment change and went back to an old set of irons last week. You know, something that I was very comfortable with.

You know, I was telling Amanda that I think all golfers is certifiably insane to an extent because we know something is good, and there is always kind of the double-edged sword of always trying to get a little bit better, but subjecting yourself to -- basically I tried this other set for about a year and went back to it last week and ended up third in approach to the green and I have no idea what I am this week.

Feel like I'm doing something right.

Q. What did you go back to?

SCOTT STALLINGS: Old set of Titleist T100s. I been using the new set about a year and went back to the old set and definitely have seen significant improvement in my iron play.

Q. What was the little difference between the two sets?

SCOTT STALLINGS: A lot of it is just the way the CG and the head is. The CG of the new T100 is a little bit higher in the head, and I am a fairly steep player and I did okay.

I had some nice weeks, but just kind of inconsistent through the middle of the bag for me. Nothing is wrong with the way the club is made. It's just as far as the way I deliver it in there. I think I match up a little bit better with the older one and I had some good tournaments and good success with it, so it's nice to see that we were correct. (Smiling.)

Q. More player than equipment?

SCOTT STALLINGS: Oh, it's definitely the player. I mean, as much as I want to think it has to do with the equipment, it's definitely me and the comfortability being over the top of the ball and being able to go and execute under pressure.

Q. There are a lot of wins on the leaderboard going into tomorrow. Do you feel like your past success can make a difference coming down the stretch?

SCOTT STALLINGS: I have no idea what tomorrow holds. I know that I have some things that I can control and kind of manage expectations, understand, but I showed up here Tuesday morning and told my caddie, if we're here for anything other than to have at chance to win on Sunday then we don't need to be here.

You know, that was kind of my mindset going in. I've played a ton of golf going into this week, and obviously had a great Sunday last week to kind of build some momentum going in here.

Look forward to the opportunity. Today was a big step in the right direction to tomorrow.

Q. It's been eight years since you won. What does it mean to get back to playing the type of golf you were used to a few years ago?

SCOTT STALLINGS: I mean, I've told this story a million times. I feel like I definitely got a second chance at my career. All the changes and everything that I made throughout my body and life and everything, that was -- that had nothing to do with golf whatsoever.

If I got a chance to play, if I got a chance to further my career on tour it was an added bonus, but I needed to make the change to be the husband and father that my kids and wife deserve, and to try to be a good steward of my body and take care of things I need to and golf is secondary.

It's obviously a huge blessing and honor to be out here for what I feel like is a second go-around.

Q. You know the history of shootouts here on Sundays. Are you looking at a number when you step out there?

SCOTT STALLINGS: No, from the first to the 18th green there is a lot of opportunity out there.
