Q. It seemed like maybe a bit of a tougher day out there than yesterday.
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Is that the question? Yeah. Yeah, we'll expand on that. Yeah, it was pretty brutal, actually. It was tough. I felt like I played really well today and I hit maybe a couple of poor wedge shots. But for the most part, I think somehow accepting that at times it felt impossible to -- there was there were good scores out there, wasn't there? So I can't believe somebody -- did J.T. shoot 7-under?
Q. Yes. I think four better than anyone else.
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Yeah. And then maybe in the morning, there was a bit of calm early, but I just think, like, it was -- if you could sort of process that the wind could do anything, and on top of that, it was very, very firm, the greens were crispy now. It was just tough. I felt like I played really well today.
Q. It's kind of the how golf goes. Yesterday, felt like you maybe didn't hit it that well, shot 5-under, and then today --
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Yeah, exactly. And I still think I got a good score out of that today. I made a bogey on 1 and 6, where I didn't really feel like I had done anything wrong whatsoever. It's like you get on the edge of those greens and you get the lies -- like, yesterday, like, my lies were sort of manageable or very readable. Today they were a little bit different. A couple good par saves.
That one on 18 felt massive. I was actually looking at that putt and I felt it looked like an impossible putt. I was looking it thinking I'll take 2-putts from here, from 5 feet, and really to put that one in. But yeah, just a completely different day. Like, I was happier with how my swing felt today. I felt a lot better about it, actually.
Q. We heard a lot of people say that the wind is supposed to be coming from this direction and then they hit one and it doesn't look like that. Is it this course, the corridors with the trees --
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: I don't know. We had a couple of windy days last year and I can't really remember. I just remember it being very, very tough. But a couple of days -- and also, like, when you're in a two ball so you can see what the other player does as well and -- like, the 10th hole today, I took an example as -- I didn't know at the time, but Cameron's hitting 8-iron from where he was in the fairway and it carried 160 yards. I hit a wedge and carried it 160 yards in the space of what, a minute. And then 12, Cam hit a great shot, and I heard him say he was playing it 158 and, I mean it didn't sniff the green. I played it three yards less, and it looked like it was struggling at one stage. It was confusing, but that's what the wind -- it did, it swirled around a lot. And then you got to pick your poison on where you want to chip from.
Q. It does feel like people have been able to separate, J.T. obviously separates, but that's usually kind of a hallmark of a good test, people will say like if you're allowed to separate you're a few shots back but right in the mix?
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Well, yeah, I think so. I think, yeah, a good test of golf would be the best player being able to separate himself from somebody that's not playing anywhere near as good. So, yeah, that's like the best judgment of a good test. I think J.T. -- I'm looking forward to watching his round back, actually I need to find that on TV and watch how he played today. But that's like, you know, that's phenomenal, and I just felt like anything -- how many people broke par this afternoon?
Q. Not a lot.
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: I'm hoping it's not a lot. But, yeah, like it was just tough. But again, that's the test that you get given today and like you got to get on with it.
Q. I'm sure it will be easier the next two days.
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Well, we'll see, won't we. We'll see. As long as I play well, like, I'll figure it out (laughing).
