Q. Jordan, 2-under par to start your week. How did you find it?

JORDAN SPIETH: I didn't strike the ball really well at all and I putted great. Kind of the opposite of how things have been going, but I've been putting in a lot of work in with the putting and made a couple early and then just kept it going made a birdie early and kept it going.

Yeah, I mean, this course is really hard. It's certainly very different from how it was on Tuesday. I think that took a little adjusting off the tee and in the greens. We had to land the ball 10 paces short of pin on Tuesday and now you can throw it right next to the stick with the rain overnight.

Just trying to make that adjustment early in the round, recognize there's some birdies out there, and then I was able to pour some in. Played the par-5 two over without hitting a green in regulation. I don't know if I've ever done that.

So try to look to play the par-5s better.

Q. Anything specific you're working on with your putting?

JORDAN SPIETH: No, same stuff. Had some misreads, just been looking for the hole to catch a few, and let it get going. And got on some fast -- this morning might have been the best putting surface I've ever been on in my life, they were that good.

So you knew there was no excuse, and then they were so quick that wherever you're going to start, it's just going to roll perfectly. So once the hole started, it got fun to be on greens. I was trying to hit greens in regulation at that point.

Q. How much confidence does that give if you were putting even if you weren't striking it as well as you had been?

JORDAN SPIETH: Yeah, I think I know what the striking is. So a little work, I got a little off ten days ago and haven't been quite been able to get it back. But I've been progressing with the putting, and it felt really good. So I'm confident in my game going forward, and now days like today make me really excited about what could be.

Q. What makes St Andrews so special and playing an Open in St Andrews so special?

JORDAN SPIETH: I would say the history for both, but I think the town, playing in the town like that is so cool. Just play right into kind of the center of town. I think on a daily round, not in the Open, it's pretty unbelievable when you have people walking their dogs on the course. It's just a casual 'nother day, place to go for a nice walk, the way that golf courses were meant to be back in whatever, 1700s.

And to kind of have a championship -- one of the biggest championships in today's level of golf to be able to go back to something like that, there's nowhere else like it.

Q. Have you ever done any sightseeing there?

JORDAN SPIETH: At St Andrews? I've played Kingsbarns, and I've done some golfing there. I've been in town. Gone to some restaurants. I don't think sightseeing. But certainly spent plenty of time in town there and it's a lot of fun.
