Quick Quotes

Q. Rico, 13 more points today. Alone atop the leaderboard. What's working so far through 36 holes?

RICO HOEY: I just feel like I'm at home. It's California. Grew up in California. I love this event. It's always fun doing like a point system so you feel like you want to go make a lot of birdies.

Yeah, having a good time.

Q. Talking about the system they have here, good finishes the last two years, top 10 last year. What is it that frees you up? It is it more mental, you know you can go for it now?

RICO HOEY: I guess so. I really like the course. I was pretty fortunate to have my first start out here. They gave me a sponsor invite, so it's something special to me and hopefully I keep carrying it on.

Q. You mentioned this being in your home state; family and friends, who do you have on site this week?

RICO HOEY: Coach is up here. Surprised me coming up so it's kind of cool. My parents are back home right now, but just nice to have my coach come up and his wife.

Q. When it comes to representing the Philippines and your culture, what does it mean to be able to come out here and just show that you guys can represent, too?

RICO HOEY: Yeah, I think it's great. I think for me, I grew up here in the States but being born there, it's kind of awesome. I can't really describe everything because I didn't grow up there but being a proud Filipino I want to make them proud and do the best I can.

Being the first one out here, it's awesome. I want to work hard every time, do the best I can.
