Q. Nice third round. Take me through the last on 18.
RYAN GERARD: Yeah, so had 137 yards in the fairway there, and it was a little downwind and it's hot and it's 6,000 feet of elevation, the ball is going far. I just figured I could hit it as hard as I could with a lob wedge and went too hard. Put myself in a tough spot behind the green and just kind of knew I've been playing really solid and hit a great shot and was lucky that it found the hole.
Yeah, it's pretty special. Really nice way to finish. Hopefully it's a good omen for tomorrow.
Q. Where are you feeling most comfortable in your game entering tomorrow?
RYAN GERARD: I've been hitting it really great for very long time. I think when you play at elevation like this and trajectory matters a lot more, ball kind of falls out of the air if you don't strike it great. It's kind of been helpful for me because I was hitting it the center of the face almost every shot so the ball is kind of flying exactly how far I want it to.
That's been a big help this week.
Q. 42 in the FedExCup; played the Scottish Open last week. What went into the decision of coming to Truckee?
RYAN GERARD: I love this golf course. I love playing in this area. I like playing golf.
So I got in at 2:30 in the morning on Tuesday. Just tried to sleep; didn't really sleep a lot.
Just kind of came out here and enjoyed it. Got on a pretty good schedule the rest of the week. It's been a grind. Been a long week. I almost didn't play. Got up to the second alternate for the British Open on like Tuesday midday-ish. There was some conversations as to whether we should fly back and try and wait to out.
No, just I really like playing here. It's a great golf course. Fits me well. Excited to be here.
I love playing golf, so I figured might as well play this week.
Q. How you feeling about the decision now versus alternate?
RYAN GERARD: Yeah, I mean, it was a tough one, because if it I skipped going and missed out on a major would've been a kick in the pants for sure.
Yeah, hindsight is 2020, so I'm glad we made the right decision. It was something my caddie, agent, family, team, everyone agreed with. Go where you feel comfortable. Know you have a tee time on Thursday and just trust it and go make the most of an opportunity.
Q. Two years ago played well here. What memories do you have that you're going to use going into tomorrow's final round?
RYAN GERARD: Yeah, just a lot good memories and a lot of good golf course knowledge things. Greens get firm; ball goes far; wind picks up in the afternoon.
You have to stay positive, locked in, and just trust what has been going well is going to continue and not get ahead of yourself.
Q. Sticking with that same theme, what did you learn about your win last year on Korn Ferry TOUR?
RYAN GERARD: When you have the opportunity to, just kind of put the pedal down. I was playing really great that week. Just kind of knew halfway through the back nine everything felt great and I just kind of continued to put pressure on the golf course and made a couple putts.
I think just kind of digging deep when you need to is a big thing, so hopefully we'll go make it happen.
