III Harold Varner

Quick Quotes

Q. What was the key today?

HAROLD VARNER III: There was no key. I played well. I had a good attitude. I wanted to go bogey-free. Didn't drive it very well today. So from where I drove it, I think I did all right.

Q. You were asked yesterday, which one you would rather do, win a major or be on The Ryder Cup, and you said both of them. Curious where making it to East Lake?

HAROLD VARNER III: Well, I'm having a kid in November, I could take care of the kid a long time, and his kids. I feel like I'm good enough to do it. I don't know what year this is, but it's long enough to where I feel like I should be there.

So I guess it just a different attitude, like everyone is like, oh, you've got a chance. Like, what have I been doing the last five years? It is what it is and I just want to give myself a good chance. The last time I had a good chance to get there, I didn't play well at Medinah, and sometimes it sucks, and that stings and I still remember it. I know exactly where I was and how it felt, and I'm going to make the most of it this week.

Q. Are you looking at the projections when you're out there?

HAROLD VARNER III: I was not. I had no clue. I know I was playing well enough to get in that final group and I just didn't finish very well. It is what it is. We have two more days. Think it's going to rain a lot, so I'll be prepared.

Q. Is it hard not to think about the projection, standings? Is it hard not to think about the larger picture?

HAROLD VARNER III: I think about it every hole. I know if I birdie this hole, I'm going to move up. It's pretty simple. In the context of actually thinking where I'm at on the list, I can't add that up that fast, thankfully. But yeah, if you play well, you're going to have a good chance to be at East Lake. Yeah, I'm always thinking about it.

Q. How would you compare that pressure at Medinah?

HAROLD VARNER III: I sucked at Medinah. I think I finished dead last. So there's no pressure when you're dead last, so no, not at all. Not the same.
