Q. Talk about the round. You come in here right on the cusp of an automatic pick. How much is that on your mind as you're going through the round and this week?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, it's there, but it's been such a long process for the picks, I guess. A year ago I think I would have been automatically picked or whenever the tournament actually was, and we're a year later. I feel like with that being said, I'm not really thinking a lot about it, in all honesty. I'm just trying to focus on the Playoffs and just get my ball in the hole here.
Q. Do you remember much of the last Ryder Cup kind of being -- kind of how you felt, not being picked?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, it sucked. Thanks for reminding me. Yeah, I got a phone call from Jim. I think it was at Aronimink. I played pretty well. I lipped out to get in a playoff to try and win the tournament, and I think I finished tied third. I was sitting there with my caddie in the car driving to the airport, and we got a phone call, and I already knew sort of what the tone, what that was going to look like.
So Tony, the same guy who just bumped me out right now out of an automatic pick is the same guy who jumped me then. Just going to try and qualify for the team outright and go from there.
Q. Talk about not having your putter today; Austin had to run back.
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, that's my fault. I went to go use the restroom and left my putter up against the Port-a-John. I thought he grabbed it, which is my fault, and then I didn't look, which is my fault again, so I had like a triple whammy there. And then he had to run back, and then I missed the putt after, so it was really not a good hole for me.
Q. Do you think he was inspired, maybe he was going to try for the 200-meter hurdles or something?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: I don't know. He'd be the first to tell you he's not that guy, but it was nice that the crowd got him going coming in because he was huffing and puffing.
Q. Would it have mattered to make the team on your own or be a pick? Does it matter?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: You know, yes, I guess, just a personal note. I was so close before and two people behind me got picked ahead of me. I think that's what happened. I can't really remember. But yeah, for that reason it's always been a personal goal of mine just to get on the team, so there's no debate about it. I feel pretty comfortable with where I'm at, and I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing.
