Q. To have a round like this with so much on the line, how does it feel?
TONY FINAU: Yeah, it feels great. I knew I had a low 60s in me on this golf course. A lot of low scores have kind of been yielded all week, and haven't been able to score as well as I would have liked, so I really put some pressure on myself to score and have a good round, and the putter got hot, and it was a nice day to do that.
Q. Is there a part of your game right now that's the best it's ever been?
TONY FINAU: Yeah, my putting. I have the most confidence I've had with it, but yeah, I've done a lot of work on it. No secret that I've messed around with putting grips, but the combination of having this new Ping putter that I have and the hard work, it's starting to show some fruits, which is great.
Q. I think you're projected right now at second in the FedExCup,so 8-under start at East Lake as of now. What's the highest up you've ever started at East Lake since they've gone to the new format?
TONY FINAU: Yeah, I think I started sixth. In this new format, this is the highest. My highest going into East Lake has been sixth, but that was the old format where points were awarded, not score.
Yeah, it's going to be nice. I knew after yesterday that I wanted to get as high as I could on the FedExCup points. Going into next week, every shot counts, and it's nice to hopefully maintain that second spot going into next week.
Q. Have you dove into the numbers at all with Ryder Cup points, or do you feel right now that regardless of whether you're an auto or a captain's pick, you're going to be on the team with how you've played these two weeks?
TONY FINAU: I feel like I've done what I can when I -- I've had my clubs do the talking, I think.
There's so many of us that want to make the team. So many great American players, and I'm one of very few -- I think very few guys that have a legit chance to make the team, which is a cool feeling. I've done all I could. I feel like last week and then this week to finish the way that I have, hopefully I've pleaded my case, and whether I make the team through points today or I don't, I'm playing some good golf, which is a good time of year to be doing that.
No matter what the case is, I look forward to next week and having a chance to win the FedExCup.
Q. Is there anything that sticks out when you found out you were on the team three years ago? Is there any moment? Xander was talking about the phone call that he got when he wasn't picked --
TONY FINAU: Yeah, yeah, I was just on the opposite side of that coin. I think Xander and I were the two guys fighting for that last spot.
Fortunately for me I got the good end of the stick on that one, and that was a cool phone call to get from captain Jim Furyk at the time. Yeah, I got some goosebumps just thinking about that. It was a cool time for me in my career. I played really nicely, and I was able to get picked. It was a special moment, and hopefully Xander and I are both on the team this year and we can put '18 behind us.
Q. Do you remember where you were? Were you on the way to the airport?
TONY FINAU: Yeah, I was on the way to the airport. Yep, I had just finished playing the TOUR Championship, and it was a great phone call to get, and that was one of the cooler rides I've ever had, flying from Atlanta back to Salt Lake City knowing that I'm now preparing for the Ryder Cup. It was a dream of mine, and to have accomplished that in '18 was special, and hopefully I get to do that a second time this year.
