Q. How would you assess the round today?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I got off to a really good start. After that it was pretty mediocre, but it was definitely nice getting off to a really good start.
Q. What was working for you early on that wasn't later in the round?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I think I just took advantage of my opportunities. I think with how firm the fairways are, it's not easy to hit a ton of fairways, but when I did early in the round, I hit it close on 1, close on 2, great shot into 3, and then -- where was my other birdie? I had one more. Yeah, fairway on 6 and hit it in there close, so taking advantage of my opportunities.
I wasn't able to do that as much on the back nine, but I had a few really good putts that I thought were going in and didn't. Overall I'm pleased with the round.
Q. In the context of obviously last week, as well, you've bounced back nicely. Do you feel good about trending to getting your No. 1 spot back for next week?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, outside of Thursday last week, Thursday I just had an out-of-body experience. Other than that, I haven't really played too many bad rounds of golf so far this year other than I think first round at the Scottish and first round here are really the two that stick out to me as just bad rounds. Outside of that I've been really patient and just played solid golf.
Q. Obviously playing with Will and you guys are close and grew up in Texas there together. Was there a little bit of needling and fun with that 1-2 going back and forth?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It was definitely fun. I would say we would needle each other a lot more in practice rounds and stuff like that where it's a lot more of a different environment.
Out here you're really competing and you work really hard to get to a certain point, and where we're at being No. 1 and 2 in the FedExCup, we've worked really hard for many years to get to this point, so any sort of needling on the golf course I don't think would be in the greatest of taste for both of us. I don't want to hurt his feelings and he doesn't want to hurt mine.
It's a lot different when you're outside of the golf course and we're at home and you can poke a little bit more fun. I would say out here it's a bit more serious.
Q. Was it a plan to wear the same colors today?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: No. Fortunately we were wearing different colored pants but there was definitely a few good jokes out there about the color schemes.
Q. For a while there we were asking when are you going to win. Now the new question is does it feel like it's been a long time since you've won?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I definitely want to win again for sure. I want to win every week I tee it up, so this week is definitely no different. I've put myself in a decent position. Obviously I'd like to be a little bit further up the leaderboard, but overall we'll see how the scores play out this afternoon, but I'll definitely have a good chance going into the weekend.
Q. How did you fix your putter so quickly?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I mean, I didn't really change much. I just had kind of one out-of-body experience, and other than that, I've putted pretty good.
Let's see, I putted bad Thursday, and then Friday I putted decent. Sunday we went out and played, putted fine, and then the first two days here, just same thing. I've been putting much better this year than I had last year, and outside of that one round, I'm not going to let it bug me.
Q. What did you shoot at Pine Valley?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I think I shot 3-under, which was pretty good. Some caddie golf. We flew straight in, went straight to the first tee. Had a sandwich in the clubhouse for like two minutes and then went straight to the first tee, so it was a little different than my usual warm-up routine for the round.
