Caves Valley Golf Club

Scottie Scheffler

Quick Quotes

Q. Talk about the Maryland crowd. How do you feel like Caves Valley this weekend have embraced you so far?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, it's been good. It's been a lot of fun. Playing with Rory the first couple days, we've drawn a nice crowd, and it's been a lot of fun.

Q. How would you assess the play today, bogey-free?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, bogey-free is always nice. I would have liked to get to have gotten a couple better looks down the stretch, but didn't hit as many fairways the last few holes, and out here with the way the holes are shaped, you've got to be in play, and did a good job of saving pars when I needed to on the back.

Q. You were looking over that putt on 18 for a while. What was the challenge of that?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: If you could stand back there, it would become pretty obvious. A lot of slope. It was one of those putts, the higher up I got it towards the fringe, the more it was going to break, so I didn't know if I was going to need to chip it to get it close or not and decided to kind accept maybe a longer putt for par, and did a really good job of getting a nice lag in there close to the hole.

Q. What's the feeling when you finish your first round in the lead, and by the time you're teeing off around 2:00, you're nine or so shots back?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I had an understanding that was going to happen. Typically around a normal tournament, the earlier you go in the day, the easier it's going to be. Yesterday with the course playing firm and then all of a sudden we get to our 15th hole and a big rainstorm comes in and it softens the whole thing up, you knew for the guys in the afternoon it was going to play a bit easier.

I knew kind of going into today that I was going to be fighting a little bit of an uphill battle, and did a good job of hanging in there and staying in the tournament.

Q. Do you think 9-under is a pretty good reflection of how this course is playing when you've got a guy at 14? I was thinking about what you said in Hartford about Dallas, when everyone was focusing on 30-under and you were talking about you had an eight-shot win, that this might be a better reflection of the course. I wonder if it's the same way here.

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It's too much thinking. Next. I really don't know. It's too much for me.
