Quick Quotes

Q. What did you find there toward the latter part of the round?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Honestly, it was kind of the same thing. I just maybe added a little bit more speed in my putts. I was leaving everything just short or just missing on the front nine. I had a little more speed. It's amazing on greens like this, you see a couple go in and then you feel like you can make all of 'em.

Q. The approach on 18, can you describe that?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, we had like 156 and we were into the wind. Into the wind today was playing super long. So normally would probably try to hit a trap 9 and, you know, play a 164 shot and it would have been perfect. We played about 170, 172, chipped an 8-iron, and it started on line and stayed right there.

Q. What is it about you and big events with two U.S. Opens, this is obviously a big event, do you love big stakes more, how would you characterize that?

WYNDHAM CLARK: I love that you're looking at the positives. I played bad in some big events, too. For me it just seems like whenever my game is good and kind of have the momentum I play good on any golf course. Fortunately for me it seems to be in big events, which I like.

Q. How was the course, the layout, the fans, what was your experience today?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Course is amazing. Honestly, it's probably one of my favorites of the year. And then, for a Thursday, there was a lot of fans. It was fantastic. From what I hear we're pretty lucky that it's not as hot as it's been here. Coming off last week in Memphis, this feels really good.

Q. When scores are low do you tend to be more aggressive or do you not look at that?

WYNDHAM CLARK: No, you just kind of play your game plan. I think when greens are this soft I think all of us kind of have the pedal to the metal, and we see every pin as a green light. So that's really what it is. Then obviously it helps if you see someone shoot 6-, 7-, 8-under, whatever, you know it's out there. So then in your mind you're like, Okay, my run's going to come.

Q. Does it make any difference to you whether you're automatically qualified for the Presidents Cup or just make it as a pick?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, I think it's, I would prefer to be an automatic qualifier because then I don't want to leave it up to chance. So that's definitely on my mind a little bit. I would love to try to get into that fifth or sixth spot. But, yeah, at the same time as long as you make the team it doesn't matter if you're 1 or 12.

Q. Are you still also thinking about Player of the Year possibilities?

WYNDHAM CLARK: That I have not thought about. Obviously everyone says, you know, focus here on the moment. That would be amazing. I probably would have to get a win here or next week to I think really be considered. But I'm really focused on playing good this week and hopefully making the Presidents Cup team.
