RORY McILROY: What a week, what a day. Firstly, there's one thing I want to say. I feel like Scottie deserves at least half of this today. He has had an unbelievable season. I feel sort of bad that I pipped him to the post, but he's a hell of a competitor. He's an even better guy.
It was an honor and a privilege to battle with him today, and I'm sure we'll have many more. I told him we're 1-all in Georgia today: He got the Masters; I got this.
Q. Getting in the last group, being a couple under this morning, how important was that to eyeball Scottie to try to chase him down six back to start?
RORY McILROY: Yeah, you know, I've been in the final group here three of the last five years, starting with Tiger in 2018 and that incredible scene, and then to get the better of Brooks in '19 was awesome.
And then another final group here -- I didn't really give myself much of a chance teeing off today. I thought six behind, I thought it was going to be really tough to make up.
But my good play and Scottie's not-so-great play, and it was a ballgame going into the back nine.
Q. We talked about The Open, how the putts didn't fall. I know that was tough for you. It was a tough couple of days after that. Given everything that's happened this year and the role you've taken front and center with the changing landscape in the sport, how satisfying is it for you to stand here at the end of the season and win this year's FedExCup?
RORY McILROY: It means an awful lot. I believe in the game of golf. I believe in this TOUR in particular. I believe in the players on this TOUR.
It's the greatest place in the world to play golf, bar none, and I've played all over the world. This is an incredibly proud moment for me, but it should also be an incredibly proud moment for the PGA TOUR.
They've had some hard times this year, but we're getting through it. That was a spectacle out there today, two of the best players in the world going head-to-head for the biggest prize on the PGA TOUR, and I hope everyone at home enjoyed that.
