Quick Quotes

Q. Great round. Can you walk us through what allowed you to play so well today?

ROGER SLOAN: I had a great command of my ball, put it in great position off the tee. Out here there's a premium for hitting the fairway, I was in great position all day long and rolled in a couple putts, I think that's really the key around here is a lot of patience, we just happened to happened to kind of can a couple putts today which was nice.

Q. The only glitch on 8, and then you go on and birdied 9. What sort of conversation did you have with yourself on the way to 9?

ROGER SLOAN: To be honest, I'm in there going, well, I really hope I don't screw up 9, I would hate to go bogey, bogey finish here. I kind of got a little defensive on the tee shot and the approach shot into the green, I told my caddy, that's where I need to be a little bit better as a player and just keep the foot on the gas. And then instead of being defensive on that putt I decided to roll it in and hit a good putt.

Q. In terms of how you're feeling about your game, you missed at the season opener, to come out here and have a great first round, what's kind of the difference between Napa and here?

ROGER SLOAN: There's not a lot of really good wine in Jackson, so... You know, always the first event of the season it seems like it kind of nabs me in the butt a little bit. I don't know if that's kind of more a pre-season event, just kind of get the competitiveness back in it, I love going to Napa, it's a great event out here and then when you come to Jackson here it's kind of like, all right, let's get after it.

Q. You mentioned that there's some, this golf course needs some tactical thinking. Describe the conditions out there and the strategy behind this golf course?

ROGER SLOAN: Obviously with the forecast we were expecting a little bit more rain, so we got a little bit more sunshine than we were expecting. The golf course is not as firm as it typically is so you can hit a few more fairways out here. This rough is really healthy, I guess they have had a lot of rain here, so you really have to position your ball well. If you get out of position like I did on 8 sometimes there's no chance of judging those flier lies of even the angles of even hitting it on the green, so then you have to figure out where the best place to get it up-and-down is from.

So what happened with me today I just put the ball in great position off the tee and was able to be aggressive all day.
