Quick Quotes

Q. General summation of the round.

MATTHEW WOLFF: Yeah, I mean, I felt like I got off to a really good start -- I really like shows shoes, by the way. Yeah. (Laughing.)

I got off to a really hot start. I feel like I wasn't really making mistakes at the start, was making all the putts that I needed to, those kind of questionable ones that can either make you start or not.

So I felt like it was really solid other than that one hole, No. 3, just got a little scared on that tee ball and a little hesitant, left it out to the right, and then compounded mistakes. But bounced back with two more birdies coming in and still got a 67.

So really confident with where my game's at, where my head's at, feel like I'm in a good spot and just making sure to kind of minimize those mistakes, and I know if I do that on the weekend, I'll like where I end up at the end.

Q. You had that triple bogey, and then you still came in and shot 67.

MATTHEW WOLFF: Yeah, I mean, I think, I was just telling Will, I mean, the last six months I've been a roller coaster. I had a good finish at the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, but that was probably the only highlight of the last six months for me.

And to be able to make a score like that and not let it affect me, not only, you know, my swing and my game, but also mentally, and I was able to stay in the present and make sure to bounce back and know that there's plenty of holes left, there's a lot of golf left, and just got to make sure to keep grinding and keep fighting, and I feel like I made a lot of progress in the last six months, but more importantly, the last month.

So, like I said, really happy to be out here, enjoy being out here, and even if golf doesn't go well, it's better than being behind a desk.

Q. I don't want to jinx it, but do you know you're 10 for 10 with rounds in the 60s in this tournament? You've played 10 rounds in this tournament, you're all in the 60s. Do you expect to shoot in the 60s every time?

MATTHEW WOLFF: I mean, I think if you ask any of the PGA TOUR players out here, they're going to say they expect to shoot in the 60s every time, especially when they're playing well.

But I hope you didn't jinx me. But, I feel like I really like this course. I like the way it sets up. Everything feels really good in my game right now and, you know, hopefully I don't break that streak this year. I'm just really happy with where my game's at and happy to be out here.

Q. Is there anything about being in this city that makes you feel good?

MATTHEW WOLFF: I mean, I love coming to Vegas. I don't know if I would come here multiple times a year if it was just for fun. But I like coming here for a reason. And this golf tournament, I love it. The people are really nice here, the hospitality, the volunteers, everyone is just, they put on a world-class event and I think I played it every year that I've been a pro and I plan to play it, I mean, every year, unless something else comes up.

But, yeah, I'm just, I'm happy to be here, happy to be playing golf and, yeah, I like Vegas.

Q. You talked about the last six months not having a lot of highlights. But when you got here Monday or Tuesday and walked on the grounds knowing it's a place you have success, is it a different feeling?

MATTHEW WOLFF: Yeah, absolutely. I think knowing, I didn't know that I shot every round in the 60s here, but I think knowing, just being here, feeling good, being comfortable with the lines off the tee, the breaks on the greens, and I feel like I'm definitely starting to come into my own too. I'm so young on the TOUR. It's only my third year out here or maybe even, no it's my third year, I think.

But there's guys out here who have played this course for 10, 15 years, and I think I'm finally starting to remember breaks on greens, oh, this one last year didn't break as much, and that's starting to help me out a little bit. So the experience definitely helps. But, yeah, I mean, coming here, I feel good here and my game feels really good.

Q. How about mindset knowing that you shot 23 under last year and that wasn't even good enough in this event.

MATTHEW WOLFF: Yeah, I mean, this course is, obviously tends to low scores. You have to play it really well and you have to do everything well. You have to hit your ball well, not make any big mistakes, which unfortunately I did today, but I also made a lot of putts and a lot of birdies.

So I don't know what it's going to be like this year, but I don't really try, I don't try to look at the overall under par round. I just try to take it shot by shot and do the best I can and whatever score I end up with at the end of the week I'll deal with that as long as I know I did my best.

Q. The weather this morning, did that have any impact at all, it was just a light drizzle for you guys?

MATTHEW WOLFF: Yeah, it was kind of annoying, just constant rain, or not constant, but it was like on and off, and when it was on, it seemed like it lasted for awhile. It was just enough to where it was getting your stuff wet and affecting you a little bit, but not enough to really make you stop or anything.

So I started off good. I was 5-under through 10. So I want to say it's harder to play in the rain, but I was playing well, so it's, you know, it's part of golf. The weather is not always perfect and hopefully it is on the weekend.
