Q. How did you kind of characterize the day and how you felt?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Not good. You see three 9-unders on the board and you shoot 3-under it's a lot of catching up to do.
Q. How is your back?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, it's great.
Q. Any chance you could elaborate? Did you have an MRI yesterday?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: No. Not yet.
Q. Have you had it looked at?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, I got everyone working on it.
Q. Is your definition of great different than our definition of great?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, I've been told I'm fakely optimistic at times.
Q. We talked to your dad a little earlier and he said this is very similar to what happened at Hero.
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah. Yeah, just trying to figure out what it is. So, yeah, it's just a bummer. It's one of my favorite places to play, so hopefully that kicks into gear here in the next couple of days.
Q. Lower back?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: No.
Q. Mid back?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Just somewhere on my back, posterior chain. Yeah, I was moving. I walked around, swung. I attempted to swing the club a few times.
Q. How does it affect your swing?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Oh, just speed. Speed's down. Kind of just swinging, a little powderpuffing it out there on a few holes.
Q. Not going at it full go?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah. Yeah. We'll see. I mean, hopefully it doesn't affect my swing that bad from like the feel of it all once I'm healthier.
Q. With all that being said, the 3-under wasn't such a bad score, was it?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, I mean, I needed to lean on my putter on days like this when you're kind of just chipping it around. I've done it at home. You know what I mean? Just chip it around the property. When it's kind of cold and you don't feel great, you just chip it around and then you just got to make some more putts. You got to kind of score a lot better and I didn't really do that. I had some good looks-ish kind of. Greens were a little bumpy there in the afternoon, so got fooled a couple times with how pure, I guess pure the surfaces are, and that's no good.
Q. You have a pretty full California swing --
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah. Yeah. So I need to stop, need to get away from powderpuffing it and start lashing at it.
Q. When will you try to get a definitive answer on this?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Of what's that?
Q. With whatever the issue is.
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, I don't know. Hopefully soon. As soon as I'm back home I'll get more information and then go from there.
Q. Can you say how long you've been dealing with this? Is it something that just came up?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Oh, it's so new. Yeah, I don't really, I've been pretty good about everything for quite some time. I'm 29 and Hero was like the first like issue I've ever had. So this is new to me. That's why I don't know how to answer these questions is I've never had to do this. Hopefully we don't have these conversations more often.
