Quick Quotes

Q. How would you describe today as opposed to yesterday? Just what was going on out there?

JORDAN SPIETH: Just a bad day. Didn't feel like it was much different. Felt like I had a really bad deck of cards today. Made a couple really -- made a couple bad swings from off the tee.

Other than that, I didn't play that different. I just ended up a foot into the rough here, right behind a tree here, it was a weird, weird day.

Left like six or seven putts short. Thought the greens were going to be faster and left six or seven in the heart within a foot short.

Just a really off day.

Q. You've been playing long enough to know that you just go home and shake this off. Didn't even happen.

JORDAN SPIETH: Yeah, this sucks. I mean, I've never led a tournament and missed the cut before. It's not like I wouldn't have replayed anything that I -- I made a bad swing; didn't really make any bad decisions. Just got just the ball in the wrong spots at the wrong places, and out here you just have to be fairway, fairway, fairway.

I just didn't drive it as well today.

Q. That five-hole stretch feel weird at all?

JORDAN SPIETH: Yeah, I mean, No. 8 I was -- I'm standing in the bunker and the ball is this far -- if the ball is in the bunker it's an easy fairway bunker shot.

I'm standing like this and it goes like two yards from being on the green and down in the bunker, short-sided, and make bogey.

9 I'm playing the wind here, southeast, and I hit what I thought was actually maybe a little bit to the right, and gets in the air and just starts going east, southeast and just never stops. Hits the cart path and goes into the water.

Q. (Regarding 10.)

JORDAN SPIETH: On 10, you know, I didn't think I could reach the bunker and it kind of went to where the slope meets the flat. I've never shanked a bunker shot. I hit the hosel but wasn't much of a play. The play was either 25 feet or try and hit it close, and just came off a yard or two from being perfect.

And then I left a putt short on 11.

So, yeah, it was just like I -- you know, I guess I could have certainly hit a better drive on 9, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was.

And then all of a sudden I was 4-over there.

Q. Not to belabor this, but the volume is down. The drop on 9 looked like it was almost on top of the hazard line, or close to it.

JORDAN SPIETH: It was probably like that far in. Well, I have to drop it there first. Then if I took cart path relief I was directly behind all the trees.

So maybe the mistake I made was not hitting a club to get to a full wedge in the fairway, because I was still trying to cut more close to the green, and when my front foot was on the cart path I just wasn't going to put my weight into it.

So I stayed back and I just didn't really -- I never play that shot. I didn't really think through that.

Q. (Regarding the range.)

JORDAN SPIETH: No, I mean, yeah, wouldn't have made much of a difference.

Q. Switch anything for the schedule early on?

JORDAN SPIETH: No. I'm seven out of eight when I play next, so I don't really want to do any more than that.
