Quick Quotes

Q. Nice start, 8-under 64 on the Nicklaus Course. Let's talk about that round today and what stood out to you.

MATTI SCHMID: I hit it lovely off the tee from the front nine, and hit also a few good iron shots, some nice wedges. Kept it a bit together on the back nine, I didn't hit it as good, but made a couple good saves, and, yeah, take a bogey-free 8-under for sure.

Q. This is your third start here, and I did notice that you shot 64 in the first round the first time you played here in 2023. Can you just remind us which course that was on?

MATTI SCHMID: I can't remember, but I take it as a good omen, because I had a good finish.

Q. I think your caddie said it was the Stadium Course, and if it was, then that's a good start. What's it been like, your off-season, and I know you started this Hawaii last week, what was the break like, and how do you feel coming into the season?

MATTI SCHMID: Had a lovely break. I went to South Africa, I played one event on the DP, Leopard Creek, which is awesome, and then stayed in Cape Town for a little bit, enjoyed the sunshine.

Q. When you come into this tournament knowing that the weather's perfect and the courses are set up the way they are, how do you get into the mindset of having to take it deep?

MATTI SCHMID: Yeah, everything is so pure here, I mean the greens just are perfect, so you can really take advantage of some good shots. I think if you hit a good putt most of the time it goes in, and yeah, that's why the scores usually are so low here.

Q. You sound like you got a little bit of a head cold.

MATTI SCHMID: Yeah, a little bit, but I'm getting better.
